v1.64 - BSOD on just installed Win7 x32 with PAE (Physical Address Extension) while loading driver...
    Official drivers have same issue.
This - http://danielkawakami.blogspot.ru/2011/01/asus-xonar-series-whql-drivers-for.html - not crashing kernel, but not work πŸ™

Is there any chances to support PAE?

My BIGGEST THANKS to the developer!
After using Audigy SE for some years and it dying, I endured a few months with my int. audio. And ofcourse it sucked more than a black hole, no surprise there. Then I finally decided to go for the Xonar DG and what a blessing it was! Since I had previous experience with Audigy SE and alternative drivers, decided to look for ones for my DG and found these - a blessing from the skies! πŸ˜€ These drivers urged me to even get an optical cable for my 7-year-old Z-5500s πŸ˜› At this point I can't even understand how I could stand so crappy sound for so long!
    So again, THANK YOU!

P.S. As you can tell from my equipment, I'm not particularly an audio enthusiast...
    P.P.S. No, I'm not religious πŸ˜€

Hi. I have a few technical questions about the way the Xonar D2X drivers work. Since you've had an extensive look at them, maybe you can answer my questions.

This is a bit long-winded, so please bear with me.

I use Media Player Classic Home Cinema, LAV Filters and Reclock audio renderer to output bit-exact audio to the Xonar D2X. Reclock audio renderer has kernel streaming / WASAPI which allows bypassing of the Windows mixer, since the Windows mixer resamples your audio. Obviously, to get bit-exact output, the player's volume must be set to 100%. So, all volume changes must be done inside the Xonar Panel. Which leads to my questions :

    1) How are volume changes processed by the Xonar drivers? Is the audio padded to 32-bit floating point, processed and then dithered down to 24 bit integer before being converted to analog? Some other way?

    2) Using the bit-exact method I outlined, decoding lossy audio (mp3, aac, ac3, etc) to 32-bit floating point and feeding it as is to the Xonar results in distorted audio. However, dithering the 32-bit floating point audio to 32 bit integer audio works. The Xonar effectively accepts 32 bit integer audio, but how does it process it? Is it converted as is to analog, or is the bit depth reduced to 24 bit and then converted?

If you want to have a look at the softwares / terms I use, see

    MPC-HC : http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/downloads/
    LAV Filters : http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=156191
    Reclock : http://forum.slysoft.com/forumdisplay.php?f=85

    Kernel Streaming : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kernel_streaming#Ker...
    WASAPI : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WASAPI#Audio_stack_a...

Please let me know if you need any clarifications. Thank you reading πŸ˜› and I hope you'll an answer for me.

I'm sorry to hear that. I will contact Asus and see if they offer any kind of response.

Master audio volume control "should" map vol. attenuation directly to the DAC, at least in Texas Instruments 179x. Done in registers 16 Y 17 for 1-DAC stereo, example: byte address = 0xXXXXXXX (CMEDIA mem address) + 16 ( IO addr. not mem) contains vol. atenuation for left channel (0=mute)
ALSA drivers in linux do it this way for Xonar cards so our hardware SUPPORTS it.

About 32bit, most (all?) Xonar's DACs have 24bit input so it must be proccesed or truncated by Oxygen-HD or Windows Driver.
BTW, since SNR in your D2X @1/4 master vol is far far beyond 16bit res: Who cares? πŸ˜‰
          http://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html

We only need no resampler artifacts (ASIO,WASAPI,etc) and a stable driver. IMHO.

hi, i just bought xonar ds and plan to use it for 2 channel listening and recording from vinyl only (24/96 via asio). is the factory driver sufficient and without bugs in that department, or should i use yours? thanx for the answer.

Since your just bought your ds , its better to use original drivers for now. After a while if you consider that you could use the benefit of having a lower DPC latency or of updated ASIO components then try the UNi Xonar.

Hi Carved, it would be great if you adopt the red skin for Xonar Audio Center that Asus has made for windows 8 or at least the possibility to use it (I like it very much). Btw, is it normal that the "Xonar Audio Center" title (white) and in my case "Essence ST" (orange) isn't shown anymore on the Audio Center? I'm using the latest 1.64 beta. Thanks πŸ™‚

Where did you see the red skin, with the original Asus drivers? In the new versions of Asus Audio Center (not released with previous drivers until those for Win8), Asus changed the default skin of Essence cards to a red one, and I reverted that back. If you want to revert to the red skin try this: copy the STX folder from the asus driver kit Windows 8CustomappSkin to C:Program FilesUNi Xonar AudioCustomappSkin.

the Xonar Audio center title might be missing because of the skin replacement I made to revert to the blue one. I will look and see if I missed anything.

Yes, it came with the original Asus Beta 8.0.8.1813 drivers for Win8, anyway I did as you said and revert to the red one, thanks! πŸ˜‰
The title thing it's not so important or it isn't at all so it's ok... πŸ˜‰

I have some fine grain equaliser setting saved in my asus xonar control centre. Does anyone know how i can migrate these setting into the C-Media audio panel?

C-Media eq profiles are saved in WindowsCmicnfgp.ini.imi you can edit this file with notepad and manually copy the text containing the eq profiles from Asus Audio Centre (C:UsersYour User nameAppDataRoamingASUSXonar XX Audio Centercmicnfp.ini . Copy from and to the [CMI_EQ] block. Hope this helps.

Tried the new beta version, but i only get sound out of the front panel, if i switch to any other output method on the rear of the card it stays on the front panel output but the sound "slows down" like a record played to slow.

Is this a known thing or do you need more info? I switched back to your 1800 drivers.

Also i prefer the "Xonar DG Audio Center" in this version, because this doesn't reset the sound back to the front panel every time i reboot my system (if i leave speakers plugged in there).

You are the first to report something like this. Could be a real issue or it could just be a temporary one that would be fixed by doing a driver cleaning and installing 1.64 drivers again. If you decide to try again, then also try with 1.63 drivers. And pls let us know of the results.

      Your OS is?

Do you mean the driver cleaner included in the installer? I had this enable, if you mean an external one i did'nt use that.

I'm on Win 7 64bit bit with an Asus Xonar DG.

163 is working without external driver cleaning. So i'll settle for this. πŸ˜‰

It could be possible that 1.64 work as well even without driver cleaning if you where to install them again. I only suggested following the driver cleaning guide to make sure there isn't anything else that could influence the problem you've been having.

Anyway I would like to ask you to try 1.64 again if its possible, as it would be helpful to know if 1.64 are problematic compared to 1.63 or not.

    Hi CarvedInsi,
you are awesome! I have a Xonar Essence ST and your latest drivers are working really nice on Windows 8x64. I wanted to ask you if you could make a slightly different version of your front panel switcher which toggles analog out between headphone and 2 speakers mode. I dont know if this is easy to implement?

    greetings
    Michael

      Hi,
Thanks:). I think its possible but I can only do it based on the old Front Panel switcher , meaning you have to close audio applications and card will be restarted in order to apply the desired change.

What are you talking about? If it where dead don't you think I would have stopped posting comments? And less then 3 months since the last driver update isn't a long time, even 1 year isn't a LONG TIME because there would be driver updates when 1) I get my hands on newer audio driver builds from Asus/Cmedia or 2) when I have some fixes or features of my own that I can incorporate in the drivers.
If I don't have something in lets say 1 - 2 years it is what it is.

Nobody is forcing you to check here every day...

I find your comment very misleading and incomplete. On top of that this might not be the the place for it.
From the description it might be that your speakers are defective. Using these drivers doesn't mean that if you have a problem with your speakers or you don't know how to connect them, then here you should come for support.
I don't know what Digital IO option does, abandoned research on that because it isn't worth my time. I had to check for my self what connection your speakers does use , which btw is analog. You don't mention how you've connected the headphones (front panel or directly to the card). Because of these reasons I got angry and I've deleted your previous comment, in fact comments like yours make me delete this whole blog...

If I would guess, you want to have speakers and headphones working simultaneously. If this is the case let me show you how you should have said: "Is there a way for me to have both my headphones and my 2.1 system to work at the same time? Both use analog connections , my card is DGX and I have Win8 x64?"

Please next time your post anywhere, first read the manuals and then make sure you give all the needed details. Hope you understand and be more careful next time.

HI great drivers been using them for a while, but with a new problem. I have a DSX and was able to install the uni drivers fine after using the official and was using DTS interactive for surround to my receiver. I recently reformatted and now when I install the drivers all that is listed under SPDIF output is PCM and 'SPDIF in loopback'. DTS Interactive is available with official drivers but when i install the uni drivers it is removed. I've tried installing the official then the uni as I did before but I can't get it to work. Thanks for any help!

      Hi. Thanks.
Are you using the same OS version? Which is that?

Maybe its a problem in the latest beta. Try with the older drivers (1.63 ,1.62, 1.61). 1.61 is based on the original Asus driver for DSX. Let me know of any developments and which of the versions work and which don't if you decide to try them all(1.63-1.61).

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit same as before and same driver 1.64 beta. I've tried 1.63 with the same problem. I'll try the others soon. Should I have to install the original first to get DTS or should I have the feature with just the Uni drivers?
