Note that bit defender block the download page as dangerous.
Anyway I'm really interested about XonarSwitch. I use a Xonar DX for an Htpc builded on a Pc with a monitor and a plasma TV. When I start the Media Center (Media Portal) I switch some kind of stuff using LM Remote, to activate the TV disabling the pc monitor, using cli.exe utility of Amd Catalyst Center dashboard and its profiles, so I'm interested about an utility to set Xonar in Dolby Digital/SPDIF (HT mode) or more and back to "pc speakers mode" when I stop the Media Center. Will it be possible to have an external utility to use into a LM remote batch command process?

    Thanks a lot.

@ Bitdefender false positive: there isn't much I can do about it. They won't allow me to submit my executable to be whitelisted since I don't own their product. My antivirus provider, WebRoot, has thoroughly analyzed my executable and then whitelisted it in their system, SecureAnywhere.
You might try to open a ticket with BitDefender and attach the latest executable and see that they fix the false positive. Fact is, Webroot is smart enough to recognize the product even when it changes in further revisions, I don't know if Bitdefender can do that or one has to resubmit every new version of the app. That would be inconvenient since we are in beta and I keep releasing new stuff.

@ htpc: both command line arguments and autoswitch based on a process being launched are possible developments, but right now I can't guarantee they will be implemented. Currently, XonarSwitch supports keyboard shortcuts, so you could assign a key combination to a profile that switches to SPDIF output with Dolby Digital Live and use any utility that simulates keypresses to activate that profile at will. I have never tried that, but on paper it should work.

That would be nice for other testers that own your same antivirus solution, or one of the others, like F-Secure, which use the same engine. When you open your ticket, tell support that it's a beta product and thus subject to frequent updates. That's to avoid they whitelist the current revision only to have the next ones considered malicious again.

P.S. I took a note of your email address and then removed it from your comment to avoid it being picked up by spambots.

Latest bitdefender Internet security says the file is infected with:

            Gen:Variant.Symmi.21539

And with Bifdefender in background the "Download" link is blocked by the antivirus program..

I sent an email to support and i am awaiting a response...

I put the links to this site and also direct link for the aplication for investigations ...

A tester had already brought this to Bitdefender's technical support's attention on a french forum:

              http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=49902

The technical support representative who responded admitted candidly it was most certainly a false positive and said things would have been sorted. I suspect they whitelisted that specific revision but almost simultaneously the new one came out.

In order for this to be solved permanently, they have to whitelist not only the current revision but also the future ones up to a point.

WebRoot's SecureAnywhere can do that. I wonder if BitDefender is as smart.

My suggestion is still the same I gave for BitDefender: open a ticket and have them examine my executable so they can check it doesn't do anything harmful and whitelist it.

Ok, If XonarSwitch supports keyboard shortcuts there should be no problems because LM Remote can simulate the keyboard.

What do you mean by "Xonar Unifed dashboard"? The ASUS or C-Media control panel?

          • Red5goahead21 Nov 2013 @ 11:26

Yes, the Asus panel, that panel xonar unified install by default. I have to enter into the dashboard at least once before XonarSwitch start to work properly switching the profiles. I can see easily it because my two profiles are dolby digital/SPDIF on or off and the HT system display Pcm or DD on the front panel. If I restart Windows 7 and XonarSwitch start with it, it doesn't work until I enter into the Asus panel at least once

What kind of setup did you run when you installed UniXonar drivers? Normal or Low DPC latency?
While Profiles don't work, have you tried changing the same options manually from the "real Time Settings" window to see if they work from there?

Also, try installing Low DPC latency instead of normal. DPC latency is particularly bad for an HTPC, and using that kind of setup with XonarSwitch should give you the best DPC latency scenario.

Take a look here if you aren't familiar with DPC latency and its effects:

New test, the profile is changed correctly by shotcuts and by real time setting. for example the master volume is changed with no problem. Instead the Dolby digital/SPDIF doesn't work, I need to launch the Asus panel first and manually check the SPDIF option to Dolby Digital once before real time settings start work properly

    Hello!
I really like the changes in 0.9.299. On thing I miss is the ability to get to the windows mixer where I can selectively mute/change volume of different applications from the volume pop-up. If a link would be added like in the windows volume thing it would be great.

Another thing: it's not quite obvious what the SVN button does on the pop-up, what does the acronym stand for. I think a tooltip should be added for it.

I agree on both. I'll surely add tooltips to next revision, and mixer too unless I find some technical difficulty.

      Thanks for your feedback!

Quick note: all those Gen:Variant.Symmi.21539 come from products that use BitDefender's engine so it's actually a single false positive.

This is so awesome that I can't believe it. The profiles for different usage scenarios (music play, movies etc) it's a brilliant idea and implementation. Thanks a lot for this! Only one question, for the software to run properly at windows startup do I have to keep the original executable, or it is already installed somewhere in my system? The fact is that autoruns doesn't show the process.

    • Giulio26 Nov 2013 @ 12:35

XonarSwitch has no setup: it's all in the executable you find in the ZIP file you download.

If you activate the "Automatically Run at Startup" option, it will create an autostart entry (using different methods depending if you use Windows XP or a more recent OS) that will point to the executable you just launched. You need no other copy of the software. From then on it will autoupdate within 10 minutes of when a new revision is released or at launch, depending which happens first.

If you move the executable while the autostart option is active, the next time you run XonarSwitch from the new position it will detect the autostart entry is pointing to the wrong location and correct it for you, provided it's been started with elevated privileges. Otherwise you just need to launch it once using the "Run as Administrator" option, untick the autostart menu and re-tick it, so the autostart will be updated.

Currently, to run XonarSwitch unelevated you need to use a normal user account, otherwise it will request elevated privileges.

Great work you did on the .299 Giulio! Just a feature request if possible: when xonarswitch starts could it get an option to have a certain profile started every time regardless of what was previously selected? I'm not sure, maybe I've asked about this before by email, but I had to go back to a month-old restore and I can't tell, so, sorry if this is a repeat. Again, your work is super Giulio, many thx!

Thank you so much for this, it's wonderful! There is only one thing missing that would let me do away with the standard control panel entirely: sliders for the "Dolby Pro Logic IIx", which lets you upmix a stereo signal to a surround sound system. There's a horizontal slider that configures width of the sound, and a vertical slider that controls the front-back balance (fade). Would be great if this functionality could be added to your program.

      Thanks for your feedback.

It's always been in my plans to add layout editors for Virtual Speaker Shifter, PLIIx and NEO, since it's not optimal to have to run XonarSwitch alongside with other software in order to have full functionaly. Currently though I can't guarantee they will be added, nor give an ETA on them.

It's normal if you switch to a profile that changes the audio channels. If you hover with the mouse pointer on the audio channels setting, either in the profile editor or the realtime settings, a tooltip should pop up explaining why.

    Reply

    • Giulio04 Dec 2013 @ 13:52

Mainly because of the differences from other ASUS cards.

There is HDMI, which is a fundamental part of the HDAV cards but it's not present on other models. Supporting it without being able to test the code I write would be difficult.

I don't know if it would make sense to only support the analog features, but even in that case I'd need someone with an HDAV to give me some data to configure XonarSwitch so that it handles the various options correctly for the specific hardware.
