Is there a way to change the "Analog" setting to 5.1 and then also switch the center/subwoofer?
I'm using the Xonar Essence ST in combination with the Xonar H6 (upgrades it to 7.1), but the only option I have is for 2 speakers.

    Thanks for your work!

Currently all output-specific options like left-right inversion for the headphones or switching center/subwoofer for 5.1 and 7.1 aren't supported. Also, right now XonarSwitch doesn't query the card for its hardware capabilities but it rather uses a static setup depending on the card model.

I've took a note of both the issues and added to my feature request list.

      Thanks for your feedback.

Can we get an option to automatically change settings when a process / application starts to run? It would be great if my card could automatically change between two different profiles when I start and stop playing games such as Counter Strike.

      Thanks for your feedback.

That's a feature that is on my to-do list since I've started developing XonarSwitch.
The reason I haven't integrated it yet is that I have plans for a wider "event system". Process creation and termination would be a subset of the possible event triggers, with keyboard shortcuts being others.

The system is complex so it'n not on top of my priorities right now. But it will come.

Love this tool, fixes an itch I've had for ages with the Uni drivers, 2 suggestions though:

Adding a key to cycle between profiles (I only got 2, headphones and speakers, having one key to swap makes more sense to me than having 2 sets of keys to pick which).
An option to show some kind of notification when you switch profiles telling you which you're currently using.

      Thanks for your feedback.

The profile cycling suggestion has already surfaced and I haven't forgot about it. It makes sense.

The reason it's not implemented yet is the same as for the above poster: it could end up being part of the event system as well.

An event would have a trigger (which could be a key combination being pressed, a process starting or ending, etc) and an action. The action would be configurable. Possible options could include: switch to a certain profile, cycle thrugh profiles, increase or decrease master or line volume, mute volume, launch an executable etc.

The current shortcut implementation would end up being just a special case of a wider and more versatile system.

Until I decide if I want to implement things this way, it doesn't make sense for me to add features that would then need to be rewritten to be compatible with the new system.

I was too lazy to read all the 180 comments, if I re-iterated previous feedback it's in ignorance of it being mentioned before, not an attempt at goading the feature out of you faster. 😉

Makes sense to bundle those kinds of changes into one update I agree.

Not sure if you addressed my second piece of feedback (or have previously); an option to display a notification telling you what profile you're currently in (systray notification popup perhaps?), would be handy especially if you add the cycling feature.

Eheh no problem at all, re-iterating feedback is good, it makes clearer that more people want a given feature. The reason I referred to someone else suggesting it already was more to let him/her know that the previous suggestion hadn't been forgotten nor overlooked.

And you're right I haven't addressed your other suggestion. That's on my to-do list as well as an option for the event system. The tray balloon is a possibility, even though I have to check that a popup doesn't interfere with full screen applications like games. Another option is a screen overlay. When the time comes I'll experiment a bit and see which option gives the best tradeoff between efficiency and invasiveness.

I can not seem to keep the switcher app running? An icon appears in the tray but disappears as soon as I try and click it. Also the process closes in task manager.

      Please do the following:
      - Start XonarSwitch
      - Open Task manager without interacting with the tray icon, not even hovering the mouse pointer on it. Is the process present?

If so, if you hover on the icon without clicking, do you see a tooltip or does the icon disappear?
Does it crash both when you right click and double clik on the icon or just in one of the two cases? If so, which one?

        Hey Giulio,

this was the behavior for me with first preview version which Smeggy has now. I fixed this with compatibility mode as u remember. Maybe this helps you.

          Hi Chris!

The version Smeggy has now is not the same that gave you this kind of problems, It's the updated one that works fine on your machine. Also you have windows 8.1 and used Windows 8 compatibility mode as a workaround, but (s)he has Windows 7 and even the version that crashed on your system worked fine on Windows 7.

So, even though the problem manifests itself similarly it could have a different cause, since XonarSwitch does a lot of things when it starts

Trying to start the app in Vista compatibility mode won't hurt though, The worst it can happen is that it won't make a difference.

    Great app, thanks!
I seem to have another problem: the tick mark by active profile is missing in right click menu, and active profile is not bolded in profiles menu. The only visual indication of active profile is the baloon tooltip when mouse pointer hovers over tray icon.

    • Giulio31 Oct 2013 @ 01:04

The check mark and profile name in bold appear only when the active profile is still entirely valid, i.e. all its settings are currently active. For instance, if you switch to a profile that uses front panel headphones as an output and then you switch to rear panel headphones via ASUS control panel, the check mark disappears from the menu entry and the profile name isn't in bold anymore.

If both visual cues don't appear even when you just switched to a profile, for example when you use the activate button in the profiles window, it means XonarSwitch for some reason can't load one or more values and since the sound card status doesn't match the profile, it thinks it's been altered by some other process and visually shows it as not active.

In the later case please post a screenshot of the problematic profile settings so I can take a look.

The app should launch perfectly fine when the card isn't playing anything. It should even launch without crashing if you have your Xonar Speakers disabled, and ask you to re-enable them, so there's definately something wrong there.

But to troubleshoot your specific problem I need more info. If you are willing to help finding the bug, please send me an e-mail following the instructions above under "How to contact the author".

You are the second person to report this under windows 7. I can't ask you to send me an email, since you'd need to open the about window inside the app and as I understand it you don't make it that far before crashing. Is it ok if I send you an email to the address you have used to post here?

      Reply

    • Giulio31 Oct 2013 @ 16:54

It's a false positive. Most antivirus programs have a heuristic engine that tries to guess if a given executable is harmful in case you got a "day 0 infection" i.e. a malware that isn't in their database yet. Sometimes though the heuristic engine mistakes some harmless behaviors for malicious.
I suggest you open a ticket with BitDefender support, attaching XonarSwitch's latest executable. They should be able to update their signatures to avoid future false positives.
At least until I release a new revision.

The New version (207) only works in Win 8.1 x64 if I set it to Windows 8 compatibility mode. The previous version didn't have this issue (192).

Can you be a bit more precise about what you mean with "doesn't work"?

Does it crash? If so, can you please give me some more information about when it crashes? Don't forget when you report a problem most likely it doesn't happen on my system, or I wouln't publish the revision, so I have to guess what's happening on your machine and the more data I have the better.

Hello and first of all thank you for your great software! It makes using the Xonar Essence and switching between different settings a much more comfortable and dynamic experience.

I just have a minor qualm with the most recent updates, which I hope you can shed some light on. The Profile page has received lots of new interesting additions lately, however as a result the window got much taller. Since there is no scrolling bar on the program window itself, on certain resolutions such as mine (1366x768) it becomes virtually impossible to visualize and operate the 'confirmation' / 'saving' buttons at the bottom of the profile settings.

If a simpler workaround does exist I'd be glad to know it, otherwise the addition of a scrolling sidebar would make for a very efficient change, at least for those like myself who are currently stuck with lower-than-average OS resolutions.

    Thanks in advance!

Reorganizing the profile edit / real time settings interface is one of my two main objectives for next revision, the other being to make XonarSwitch usable by those who don't use windows accounts with administrative privileges. I agree the interface just can't keep growing in size as I add new features.

As soon as I'm able to stabilize the present version, I'll start working on that.

Another problem I'm having with the latest updates is that whenever I try to setup a new profile, click on the audio layout option, select '2 channels' then change it back to 'Don't Change', Xonarswitch crashes and creates an undeletable profile named 'Xyzxyz-live' (the letters represent random numbers).

Last usable version, as far as I'm concerned, was 0.9.113. 🙁 But, even if I wanted to keep using that version, the auto-update constantly and inevitably prevents me to do so.

Well, any help is much appreciated!

Same here. If I select Don't Change while Live On, it crashes and then I end up with a new profile that has a seemingly random name.

      Reply

    • Giulio02 Nov 2013 @ 13:03

I'll take a look to your report. The weird profile you see is a backup temporary profile where XonarSwitch stores the settings the card had when Live Mode was activated, so that it can restore them when you finish editing.

That profile is usually automatically deleted when the previous settings are restored, but of course in this case the crash prevents that from happening.
That profile should be deletable though. And it can be safely deleted.

Edit: Ruynam can you please send me an e-mail?

    Hi!

I'd like to post some suggestions that I think they would be very useful:
    1. "Don't Change" option for EQ, so that we can use a universal EQ preset without having to edit each profile individually because it resets each time we switch.
    2. Exporting profiles to a .reg file. Useful when we have to reinstall Windows and want our profiles back.
