One thing is for sure: By enabling Dolby Headphone the DPC latency increases by 1000μs.

Between 48KHz and 96KHz sample rates, there was no significant impact in DPC latency (practically the DPC latency was the same). Also I haven't noticed any changes when enabling or disabling GX. The only impact in DPC latency was caused by Dolby Headphone (and possibly could be caused by the other effects). The testing subject was a youtube music video at 480p resolution.

That's interesting but I highly doubt that any video on youtube is at 96khz. You just upsampled possible 44.1khz source audio file. Try real 96khz input file maybe in foobar or other player. Or maybe I'm wrong and this is the right way to test it? Just watching dpc latency while upsampling lower sample rate source?! Now I'm really confused.

Yes it was upsampling, there was no other way to test it. I couldn't find a real audio file that was encoded in 96KHz sample rate (most of the encoders support up to 48KHz - But I think FLAC support much higher sample rates). The sampling rate of the youtube video was at 44.1KHz.

Maybe the best way is make the test with an mp3 file in foobar2000.

Really you don't have any? πŸ™‚ I have some hi-res files in flac. (24/96 or 32/192) I tried some comparisons of same pressing in 16/44.1 and higher 24/96 resolution (vinyl rip :)) and it looks like the dpc latency was about 50-80 μs higher in the second case. Can be this right or it's should be less evident?

@semtexxl, 50μs is a small increase. That's why I said that there were no significant changes.

Watching dpc latency while upsampling lower sample rate source is correct.

Now tested with 16/44.1 flac played through foobar wasapi out, upsampled on output in asus audio centre to 48, 96 and 192KHz. Results (approximate): at 44.1 sample rate: 420μs
              48: 450μs, 96: 490μs,192: 680μs xD
To me it looks like no coincidence at all so new driver must working (to my amazement) properly.

Well, I tested DPC latency using the DPC latency checker you linked to in your article.

Here's what I got with windows 7 audio set to 44100hz/24-bit

And here's what I got with windows 7 audio set to 96000hz/24-bit

    Looks like there's a difference.

I used foobar2000 with no dsp effects activated to playback a perfectly ripped and encoded FLAC of Hog Callin' Blues by Charles Mingus.

There were no bittorrent or IRC clients running and no effects enabled in the c-media panel.

Nope, there is no point in releasing a pack. I have a Xonar
DX, that's why I'm releasing my Xonar DX packs, because I'm doing them for personal use.

But there will be a new UNi Xonar release by CarvedInside.

Wait for the new UNi Xonar release based on 1813 driver.

Alternatively, you can try the UNi Xonar 1.54

Xonar DS, any and all drivers end up leaving me with windows 7 unfocusing problems, which occur every 1 minute, forever. ASUS Xonar drivers from their website also give me the very same problem, but only 2-3 focus to desktop problems, then it disappears. I really like C-Media, but I'm settling just to have surround sound. Did I just buy the worst of the worst, or has anyone else had these problems?

Unfocusing? Don't have a clue what you mean by that...
Anyway try an older UNi Xonar driver, like 1.41 and do a driver clean how its described in the FAQ.

Regarding gui's, focus means highlighting or in context.

For example, when I type this reply, the text area is in focus; the other widgets on the window: buttons, menu, search boxes, etc are not in focus.

Hey all..I have been trying for all night now and probably whole weekend I will try to solve this too.. I couldnt manage to get eax emultion working in single title. I can list bunch of games (HL1 included) no eax. My card is xonar dg, I have tried all Uni drivers, everything and no luck. can you please answer me: is there just ONE game that my card can emu eax so I will understand the problem..thanks again for all greatness of this movement πŸ˜€

This is an usual problem for this so called 'emulation'. But if you want one example I can clearly remember that it 'worked' in Call of Duty 2 for EAX2 but not for EAX3. It's funny that this card is advertised as something that supports EAX1,2 natively and 3,4,5 through GX. A one big lie! My brother tried an old Warcraft III dota with eax2 option turned in options and guess what. He has got an error message saying that some particular file is missing. Now he can't get 5.1 sound even for an old eax2. Pathetic. Somebody here explained that this fantastic emulation it's just some kind of software hook forcing eax tags or something like that so you missing some sound effects anyway. Hope this helps.

Hm If you have enough patience and time why not try that but I doubt that it'll make any difference for relatively new game, maybe for old ones. Who knows..let us know your results for sure. BTW Did you tried compatibility mode in win7 or vista for running the game?

Spent my whole weekend trying and yes, I installed xp and tried. No difference. Plus I had some blue screens when gx enabled sometimes. I tried one game especially: HL1. Back in the day I had aureal3d supported vortex card and hl + a3d was the best sound to that day. I couldnt manage to enable aureal 3d engine in hl1 no matter what. There is a specific command at console "s_enable_a3d" and this never worked. Aureal3d failed...So forget eax, even a3d is not working. I hoped a3d wasnt just emu like eax and its gonna work..but no luck.

A nice link btw thank you. anyway is there a reason I cant control volume when asio selected in jmedia mp, I cant controll volume at asio at all?

A3D can be rollbacked from older drivers. It for speaker geometry and position on games that support eax games.

Please specify your sound card model. I guess by 5.1 it may be xonar d2x. There was a channel swap problem. Install latest PLX firmware update 1.1 from here and let me know if it helps. http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=e...

    Hi... there.

I'm using HDAV1.3 Deluxe. I have a problem with 1.63 beta. The Windows clicking sound will be gone if I play the music using foobar2000 with ASIO. This problem never occurred before with 1.62 Beta.
Even after I closed foobar2000 but the windows clicking sound wouldn’t come back.

Might be a problem with this version. Can you tell me after closing foobar2000, if you look at Processes in Task Manager there is any process starting with ASIO in its name?

It's okay now. I think I solved it by uninstalled the drivers
then restarted the PC and re-installed the drivers again.

Updating v1.63b directly from v1.62b1 by using clean installation
option have caused me the problem.

Hello… I’m having a really annoying problem, i have Xonar D2 card and whenever i start my system from cold (cold boot), audio driver wont load, i literally have to restart the system 3-7 times for it to load, i’m very frustrated with that, i’ve been reinstalling the drivers but nothing works, i hope some of you can give me an advice, i’m pretty close to throw my audio card in trash… Thanks in advance!

I remember having an exact same issue as you (Xonar D2X). I tried driver sweeper and when it didn't helped me my second move was quite drastic. Fresh os install with last proper working package. Now it works. But I must add that this bug or something comes only once after installing later driver version. Maybe a conflict with other driver on startup? Who knows.

When it doesn't work, if you look in device manager, is the card properly detected and without any exclamation marks over its icon? and what does it say in the Device status in General Tab of the cards proprieties from Device manager?
Try uninstalling, following a driver sweep like its presented in the FAQ, and install a different version of the drivers.

Like semtexxl said it could be a conflict with something else on startup. Another thing could be something related to power system or PSU not delivering the necessary power on a cold boot.

I have tried different versions of drivers before I format the pc I've tried 1.62 and 1796 1.54 drivers with performing a clean up like you suggested. nothing changed. after formatting pc, I installed 1.62 and tried, same: volume maxed out while asio in use. Uninstalled using driver fusion and cleaner.bat, installed 1.63 and still asio has maxed out volume. Driver options are Cmedia panel, no gx enabled. I did what all you suggested. maybe my card is defected?

Oh man sorry.. I found the problem. It was the jriver media center. I read posts about ppl even with asus drivers and stx cards having this issue. Jriver mc seems disabled this volume control to preserve perfect bitrate and ppl using foobar to control their asio volume. Drivers are great, sorry about bitching too much. Everything is perfect.
