Bit of a strange one, using an Asus Xonar DG PCI card running win 8.1, it has been rock solid to date but turning on PC this morning no sound at all even though the mixer shows audio being played. Thought it was the headphones and tried another but same deal. Checked windows event log but no errors, as far as the PC is concerned the xonar is tip top.
Tried uninstalling and clean drivers but it made no difference, had to re-enable the crummy onboard sound to make do. All my PCI-e slots are taken so their is not a lot choice in the PCI sound cards out there.
Could it be the card has broken somehow ?
CarvedInside02 Dec 2013 @ 00:08
Could be, although this doesn't seem to happen.
Make sure the connections are fine. To be sure the card is "dead" try your card in another PC if you can.
Dan03 Dec 2013 @ 19:54
Thanks but this just went to super strange.
Removed the xonar as I decided to try some USB audio solutions instead and the PC starts spontaneously rebooting, event log shows kernel error.
Put back in the xonar even though no driver is being loaded I've cleaned those out and the device is disabled in device manger and system is rock solid again, repeated and tested a few more times for good measure. It looks like my PC has been possessed by the xonar lol.
Guess I'm stuck with it until I get around to clean installing the os.
Simon12 Dec 2013 @ 19:21
The latest Windows 8.1 updates stop the drivers and or card from working. I just installed Windows updates for 8.1, card and or driver stopped working with no sound what so ever. Restored from a restore point before the Windows updates were added and the card is working fine again.
Xonar STX BTW, also tried the offical Asus drivers and they didn't work either.Turn Windows updates off for now, until a fix is found anyway π
Simon16 Dec 2013 @ 13:22
After a bit more investigation into this it seems Windows 8.1 now blocks the driver because it can no longer verifies the digital driver signature and thinks it's not legit.
I'm back to using the official Asus drivers now and i'm not having any probs with them. If I install the Uni drivers they stop working and if I go into device manager and click on my Xonar STX to see the driver info it says
"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"
CarvedInside16 Dec 2013 @ 19:03
That should not be a happening if original drivers work.
Which UNi Xonar driver versions have you tried and did not work?
simon17 Dec 2013 @ 02:30
The latest version of the uni drivers, no matter what I do, after restarting my PC they stop working.
I was also using XonarSwitch, which I thought may be the problem but I removed it from my PC and I still get that error I posted above.
I had been using the uni drivers for over a month with no problems at all but after updating Windows they stopped working. If I restore my PC to a point before the updates were installed, the driver work, but something still stays because as soon as I restart my PC they stop working again.
Nothing has change with my PC hardware wise or software wise, the only thing that has been installed recently are the Windows updates. The official drivers are working fine for me at the moment with XonarSwitch, i've restarted my PC several times just to make sure and I have the Windows updates installed also.
My Windows is a legit and I definitely don't have any viruses or anything installed that would conflict with the driver
I'm not sure what MS has done, maybe it is one of their security updates that is reading it as a false positive? i'm not sure to be honest i've tried uninstalling the updates manually and many others things but no matter what I do the drivers stop working.
Could changing the OPAMPs cause this? it's the only other thing I can think of, although it's been weeks since I upgraded the OPAMPS on my STX to 3x LME49720NA and the drivers have been running fine up until now. As I said before though the official drivers are working fine so I don't think it's that either.
Very strange situation anyway, next time I get Windows updates I will try the uni drivers again to see if it is just these lot of updates causing the problem. π
CarvedInside18 Dec 2013 @ 19:35
Changing OPAMPs wouldn't cause this. The strange thing is that I don't see a reason for original drivers to still work if UNi Xonar drivers don't.
When you installed UNi Xonar drivers, by any change did you check the Drivers signature bypass(...) or used the DHT4 addon?
Can you tell me the which version(eg. 1818, 1821) the original drivers you've have installed are?
If you wish to install the UNi Xonar drivers as a temporary solution you can enable test mode, that should disable driver signature.
Thanks for the details.
Simon19 Dec 2013 @ 22:45
The official drivers i'm using are PCI_STX_8_0_8_1821_Win8 which are the latest ones on the Asus website.
Bypass driver signature was definitely ticked when I installed the uni driver, I didn't install any addons either. When I get time I will try the disabling test mode workaround and let you know.
CarvedInside20 Dec 2013 @ 05:36
Bypass driver signature should not be checked, it works only in test mode but its normally not required even in testmode. So if you installed the drivers with that option maybe that is causing the issue.

What size of cache size to set in aimp player (with asus asio driver-asus honar dg ). I all ready set up bith depth 24 bit and latency 10 in aimp.
When playing dota 2 and playing music in aimp there is no sound at all in game ?
My pc is phenom 2 965 , 4gb ram and 6850 and speakers beyerdynamic 910.
Ty in advance
Bruno+Ferreira02 Dec 2013 @ 20:28
Don't use ASIO unless you're absolutely sure that you need it. It's not easy to configure and will not increase your sound quality, unless your music player was resampling to begin with
ASIO drivers by necessity tend to work in exclusive mode (such is the case of the Xonar's), that's why it "locks" out other applications from providing sound.
Marko02 Dec 2013 @ 21:19
What driver is the best wasapi exclusive or just wasapi (asus honar dg) or something else in aimp ?
Bruno+Ferreira02 Dec 2013 @ 21:39
I'm not 100% informed about WASAPI but in theory it would be a good choice.
CarvedInside03 Dec 2013 @ 17:05
If you select WASAPI Exclusive or ASIO, you won't be able to hear the sounds from other applications/games. WASAPI Exclusive might be better for sound quality. Use WASAPI if you wish to listen while playing games.

XonarSwitch doesn't recognise my HDAV 1.3 sound card. I use Hdmi through to Onkyo receiver. I love this card and I haven't found anything that comes close to it yet! Currently using Windows 8.1.

I have Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit, and I have been at this now for about 3 hours...
Every time I install my driver, it tells me that I need to plug in the ASUS Xonar DG sound card, even though it's already plugged in. The drivers wind up never fully installing...I am frustrated to no end -- any help would be extremely appreciated. I was able to get the sound to work, but the mic wouldn't work even when fixing the issue through the mic equalizer area.
Thanks!
I have the ASUS Xonar DG PCI 5.1 Audio Card, and I have installed it on 2 different PCI slots, still with no response...
OS: Win 7 64-bit
MOBO: Asus M4A89GTD PRO (No on-board sound installed)
Nvidia GTX 470
8 GB DDR3 RAM
CarvedInside05 Dec 2013 @ 16:07
If you have problems installing the drivers. There is a dedicated page with solutions for this.
If you have problems with your mic, check the mic in the onboard card. If it works, then make sure you are connecting it properly to the Xonar card and that the settings are as they should (consult the Xonar Manual). If it won't work its probably a hardware issue with the mic side of your Xonar card.
CTCheeseman05 Dec 2013 @ 19:48
CarvedInside, Thank you so much for your speedy and helpful responses. I've been researching this issue for hours and you have been the only person to really help out!
I finally figured out the issue late last night.
I didn't plug in my HD Audio from the front, but it still stated that I needed to plug in my card. I hard reset my computer, since my computer wouldn't even shut down after 20 minutes, and re-ran the drivers. The drivers completed the installation and now the device works properly. Kind of a crash-and-burn way to go about fixing the issue, but at least it works. Thanks.

So, I installed the "UNi Xonar 1816/1821 v1.71" with my Xonar DGX.
I checked the box for the C-Media Panel and it installed that, it had the icon in my taskbar tray and everything was working smoothly. After I rebooted, it disappeared from the tray, but now I have the Xonar Audio Center, the default one. I don't think I had it before. I can still open the C-Media Panel by searching for it, and it's a .cpl file.
I am just really confused as to whether or not I did something wrong O.o
CarvedInside07 Dec 2013 @ 18:46
Maybe you did not uninstall the previous drivers before installing. Uninstall the drivers, and install them again.
Or maybe some time ago you've added Asus Audio Center to the Windows Startup. Check Start->Programs->Startup.
imrevned07 Dec 2013 @ 19:42
Okay, so I think I got it working by just making sure I did a fully clean remove and install. Here's what I did:
1) Uninstall UNi Xonar Audio Driver from Add or Remove Programs then reboot (as it asks) normally.
3) Audio drivers are now Multimedia Audio Controller.
4) Run drivercleaner.bat
5) Run Driver Sweeper then reboot.
6) Device Manager, update driver software. It installs, I now have working audio, but there doesn't seem to be any kind of audio panel.
7) Run the driver installer (C-Media Panel, run driver cleaning before install unchecked). Installer fails.
(If I had rebooted into safe mode on step 5, the installer may have worked and I could have saved time, not sure though)
8) Still says Xonar Audio drivers in device manager, but got rid of the sound. Will reboot. Sound is now back.
9) Going to reboot in safe mode and try the installer in there. I ran the installer with the safe mode option checked, it worked. Going to reboot normally.
10) It appears to have worked. I now have working audio and the C-Media Panel (also in my task tray, the blue swirl icon). When searching for the C-Media Panel with the search function, I can only find that .cpl file, it doesn't have a shortcut and etc. like the default Xonar Audio Center; I am not sure if it is supposed to be like that, but I don't see any traces of the default audio center.
11) Going to reboot to see if it stays. It stayed, things look good so far.
imrevned09 Dec 2013 @ 01:04
Hmm.. everything has been working fine, though I was just watching a video when my headphones made a click and then I could I only hear out of the right ear. I was using the Dolby Headphone setting. Sound only plays in the right ear and the left ear has static, even when no sound is playing. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, tried other headphones, same thing. Is my card possibly defective?
imrevned09 Dec 2013 @ 01:25
Sorry, but I appear to have fixed it, lol. I moved the sound card to a different slot on my motherboard and reinstalled drivers, appears to be working again >.<
Papf10 Dec 2013 @ 21:24
There are new drivers on Cmedia site, and nothing new here π
CarvedInside10 Dec 2013 @ 21:44
Those drivers aren't new, driver version is 1803 vs 1821 in Uni Xonar.
spitf1r311 Dec 2013 @ 11:15
U'll probably need to rewrite your firmware. I had this problems 3 times by now. Theres a bug in firmware After switching to front panel or back after restart there a chance that your card will not be recognized. I'm tryin to find the link form where i downloaded the firmware and the aplication for it.
The link to restore your firmware. After switching front back to front or the other way round thereβs a chance that your card wonβt be recognized after restart. The link: http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Xonar_EEPROM_Failure

imrevned12 Dec 2013 @ 00:22
I just got some new headphones (Samson SR850s) and the cable is too short for me to have it plugged into the sound card and for me to lie on my bed, so I wanted to use the front panel whenever I am lying down. I plugged in my HD Audio connector to the sound card, my microphone works when plugged into the front, but I am getting no audio through my headphones. Is there an option to tick the front panel for my headphones/speakers like there is with the microphone? What do I do?
I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, tried the AC'97 instead of HD Audio, no luck.
CarvedInside12 Dec 2013 @ 18:28
You need to select FP headphones in the Analog output option. If that does not work, maybe you should check to see if the audio frontpanel works when connected to the onboard audio card.
imrevned12 Dec 2013 @ 18:40
I do not appear to have that option.
http://puu.sh/5KodH.png
I am using the 1.64 drivers.
Also, it looked the same when using the 1.71.
Should I not be using C-Media Panel?
CarvedInside13 Dec 2013 @ 00:35
C-media Panel is missing that option. I recommend that you use XonarSwitch instead.
chinochibi12 Dec 2013 @ 07:34
Hi, I've been having a small (somewhat annoying) issue with these drivers. I'm currently using a 5.1 speakers with my xonar dsx and I have configured the analog out to 5.1. When I hook up my headphones in the front panel, the xonar control panel correctly switches it to fp headphone. The problem is when I disconnect my headphones from the front panel as it switches to headphone instead of the original settings of 5.1 speakers. I'm running 8.1 fresh install and I have not tried the official asus drivers. Thanks.
CarvedInside12 Dec 2013 @ 18:26
Most likely you'll run into the same issue with the original drivers. I am afraid this issue is out of my hands, but I will see if there is something I can do about it. Meanwhile you can check XonarSwitch, there you can make a profile with 5.1 speakers/6channels settings that you can activate with a keyboard shortcut.
lumzi2313 Dec 2013 @ 22:08
Moved my card from PCIe 16 slot some places below my video card to the PCIe 1.0 slot above it. The difference? WOW!
ertsi18 Dec 2013 @ 09:27
hi, and thank you for your amazing work with xonar uni drivers!
(win 8.1 64bit pro) currently im using xonar essence stx as my main soundcard. now, my (asrock z87 extreme3) onboard (realtek xxx) is not working, and i actually prefer it that way.
i added xonar dg, since i had one of those laying around, gathering dust. why? cause i need two capture two different sound sources, and i mix them together for my headphones. install went smooth and i have sound and all.
here's the problem/question. whenever i restart my computer, asus control center labels itself as asus dg control center, and not the stx. therefor im not sure if stx is using its full potential, and if the settings are right or not. and, i cant change stx's settings
a) is it possible to run two xonar cards in the same system in the first place? i tried googling this quite a while now, and didn't find definite answer. as usual, direct support from asus is non-existent, and they'd prob told me to fuck off if im not using their own drivers.
b) is it possible to "switch" between the cards control center wise/ launch a different instance of the control center?
c) or is there a way to disable dg for using the control center?
c) or should i install totally different drivers for dg?
id like to use stx as my main card, and maybe set up the dg once. if changing both of their settings is inpossible, then dg should act just a dumb stereo soundcard (which drivers for this?)
Giulio18 Dec 2013 @ 20:44
Have you tried XonarSwitch?
Currently it doesn't support dual cards, but there's a possible workaround I posted in response to Ryuuji Tora in the current comments page which could prove useful for you. If it works, you might force XonarSwitch to detect your DG, set it once the way you want, and from then on force it to detect your STX.
You can find the hardware IDs of most ASUS cards, to use with the HID command line argument, on this page:
http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Xonar_EEPROM_Failure
Maybe you're not interested in having switchable profiles, but you can still control most of your card's features.
If you need help to make the trick work, please post on Ryuuji 's thread using the thread's own reply button and not the general one, so that the answers are easier to follow for other users that might have a similar problem.
ertsi19 Dec 2013 @ 13:41
ty for your reply
ill give it a spin. you are right, i dont really need switchable profiles. all i need is to setup dg once, and then system to prioritize stx. so far i have sound just find, and i can launch stx control panel if i uninstall dg via device manager, restart xonar audio/control center, re-install dg. its a pain to do everytime i boot my machine. its just a slight inconvenience, but im more than happy, if this somewhat solves my problem. or workaround will do too, untill driver support takes the next step =)
Giulio19 Dec 2013 @ 14:28
I don't think the problem is driver support, but rather audio center support. The ASUS control panel detects the first card it finds, just like XonarSwitch. If you disable one, you force it to detect the other one.
If I was you I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for future control panel releases (if they will even exist) to support multiple cards.
On the other hand, I have full control of what XonarSwitch does. If you write me an e-mail (instructions are in the XonarSwitch post, under "How to contact the author") I can provide you with an internal build that implements the HID trick in a more convenient way. Then you are perfectly fine not creating any profile and just using the volume popup and real time settings. Unless you need one of the Control Center functionalities that aren't yet supported by XonarSwitch, you'll be fine in controlling your STX.
ertsi19 Dec 2013 @ 19:21
hi giulio!
i made an interesting discovery today. unfortunately, either i couldn't utilize xonarswitch properly, or it just wasn't for this. i tried using the eeproms provided on the other post, but switch would just say, that theres no actually card installed.
anyway. this is for giulio, as well as every1 else who are interested.
when i launch windows, it recognizes xonar dg, and launches dg audio center. if i disable dg from device manager, launch audio center again, it launches stx version. when i enable dg again, and launch another audio center, it launches one for dg. after this, i can change both cards settings. is there a way to automate this? was this any helpfull?
CarvedInside19 Dec 2013 @ 20:08
The C-media panel or Asus audio center that are included with Asus and UNi Xonar drivers won't work to control the cards the way you want without disabling one of them in device manager in order to change settings on the other card. Your best bet is with Giulio and the XonarSwitch.
ertsi19 Dec 2013 @ 20:18
ty for your reply, ill consult giulio about switch =)
tho, i can change the settings for both cards, but stx sounds will play through dg, if i use dg for teamspeak for example
CarvedInside20 Dec 2013 @ 20:35
Have you tried changing the default card in Playback devices? And also in TeamSpeak settings?
ertsi20 Dec 2013 @ 22:27
yes, this occurs if i have both audio centers open, i have stx as my default device, and i change dg in ts as output device. after this, systemsounds etc. come through both devices π
andrei18 Dec 2013 @ 18:54
i have an asus xonar D2X 7.1 PCI-E and a pair of 2.1 Edifier 530.Can someone for the love of god explain to me why when i play Pandora and open a song in youtube the youtube sounds lower. If i pause one of the aplications the sound on the other one goes louder.

Thank you for these drivers. The drivers for the ASUS D1 installed incompletely from the disc with Win 7, no volume control and a blank recording panel.
Just FYI, while installing 1815 v. 1.64, from Media Fire, my Webroot AV suite blocked and quarantined quote a.exe end quote. I've had problems
with hackers previously so this may have originated elsewhere.
CarvedInside20 Dec 2013 @ 20:10
1.64 are on mediafire servers. Currently I am not hosting the drivers on my website server. I don't understand which files have been quarantined by your AV, "a.exe"? There is no such file within the driver package. I've check and the download link or the mediafire repository hasn't been compromised. Here you have the SHA1:7537ff8be1f863938be44ecfe852dd67 for the file. You should also read FAQ: Q&A 12.
Rob26 Dec 2013 @ 14:29
Looks like you've been doing some great work by providing an alternative driver to the terrible ASUS ones.
I was wondering though, if you have any plans to make an ASUS Xonar Phoebus driver at all? There are a lot of users who are currently suffering from speaker profiles randomly changing when playing a new audio source (opening an MP3, watching a youtube video etc), random crashes with certain audio sources and just general shitness from using the official drivers.
If you could help out, I would certainly be eternally grateful.
CarvedInside28 Dec 2013 @ 20:10
Circumstances are very different, so I can't do modded drivers for Phoebus cards.
