    Hi,

I have a Xonar DS card running on Windows 7 32-bit. Up until I updated my drivers from 1.71, I've never had any issue with it. Now, after the 1.72 update, Windows Explorer keeps locking up on me after a reboot or a cold start. When I say Windows Explorer, I don't mean the file explorer utility. I've tried doing a clean install to no avail. Any suggestions?

This issue is not present with Win7 x64. I guess it's possible that there could be a conflict with Win7 x86. Can you check back with 1.71 and confirm that those drivers do "still" work fine?
I am not sure there is anything I can do, at least right now. Thanks for bringing this up.

        Hi CarvedInsinde,

Sorry for the delay. You really need to help me out here please. In the past few days, things have gotten worse. Here's what I've done so far: First, I tried uninstalling 1.72 and installed 1.71 r2. After that, my computer started acting up. It would take awhile for Windows Explorer to open and I'd hear my HD's making noises like clicking and whirring. A few days of this and I got fed up and wiped my C drive then reinstalled Windows. Then, I thought I should be able to use 1.72 now. Wrong! Everything seemed fine for awhile and then after the monitor was off, I heard one of those error sounds that Windows plays and the screen turned back on but no boxes were diisplayed. Later, with the screen off again, I heard the familiar sound of Windows alerting me that Windows Explorer had crashed and restarted. So I cautiously did the uninstall/reinstall routine. During re-installation I noticed that when the drivers were being installed, the progress bar moved very slowly and when the bar had reached 100%, the install got hung up, and about 5-10 mins. later a box pops up telling me my sound card wasn't plugged in so now I'm pretty much right back where I was. I have no sound at all now. As an aside, I installed Norton Internet Security in the past month. Now I'm wondering if that has anything to do with all of this. Only thing is that I had no problems until I ran the 1.72 update. So! That should be enough detail for you.

        Thanks for your help

Do a driver clean, like detailed in FAQ:Q&A1. For installation problems you can check this page.
Try installing 1.71 driver or older. I'm starting to think it's something else since you've mention that your computer acted up with 1.71 drivers before the reinstall. There could be a hardware malfunction of your Xonar card or other software conflicts

My hero! It's so baffling why Xonar can't produce a driver that functions for their own product. I used your driver years ago when I first got the ASUS card (I had UNi version 1.30 forever). Recently started having issues - wasn't sure if they were hardware or software related, so I tried updating the driver - with the ASUS version. Poof - dead - no sound at all. Couldn't roll back, either. Wasted so much time struggling before remembering I had used your UNi driver. Took your advice about cleaning with Driver Fusion, installed your UNi driver, and ta-daa! Sound is back. Donated $10 for rescuing me on 2 occasions and for many years of fine 5.1 music. Thank you so much for the work you do. <3

I have a problem with my Xonar DX and Windows 8.1
After a while the right speaker side get´s really quiet. You can still hear sound from the right side but the left side is much louder.
At first i thought it was a connection problem on the plugs, but that´s definitely not the case. A reboot fixes this and also a driver reinstall fixes this instantly even without rebooting.
Do you have any idea what could cause this? I´m happy to provide further information if needed.

greetings from an otherwise happy user 🙂

How old is your card? Did this recently started to happen or you had this since you first had the card ?

My card is about 3 years old now. It never happened before. It started recently.
Do you think it could be hardware related? I had some temperature problems due to folding@home but i changed my cooling system a bit so temperature should be good again.
Also the last 2 days the problem didn´t occur anymore. We´ll see if that was the culprit.

        Thanks for your response! 🙂

Usually those who come here are report issues like yours, have brand new cards or have the issues from the beginning and from what I gather those cards do behave this way because of card's hardware issues.
With older manufactured PCIe Xonar cards there is also a problem with incompatibility with some motherboards that could manifest in sound dropping among other things. And there is a firmware update for that, info here. But if you haven't recently change the motherboard this would not be the problem.

If problem reappears you should try older drivers as well (even if they are not 100% compatible with Win 8.1) and see if the issue still occurs.

I have the same issue that Philip has. I replaced my Asus dx thinking it was defective. Got a new one same issue once in a while with the sound was much louder on the left channel. Driver 1.72 only. Put in original Asus driver, no issues. I have windows 8.1

I kept having that issue even though I tried different UniXonar versions. Now I also moved back to the original driver and haven´t had a problem since.

When you had the UNi Xonar drivers which panel configuration did you use?
What is the version of the original drivers that you have installed now and say it's working without issues?

The C-media Panel without GX. But if I remeber correctly I also tried the Asus Panel a few weeks ago and still had the problem.
              The latest Beta Version 8.1.8.1822.

Hi I just wondered is it possible to add or does your driver software include more voice effects for voip and game applications?

    Hi there! 🙂
I have a balance issue with my Xonar Xense running on Windows 8. After looking on the internet I found your driver. So I properly removed the official Asus driver for Win8 and got yours instead. But the problem is still here: on default settings my left hear is way louder than the right one. I tried to work this out with those little settings http://puu.sh/6TL8W.png but I still had problem when sounds get powerful (if the sound goes up, the left hear takes the entire sound and leave nothing for the right).
I may have a clue on where's the problem is. Here's my xonar xense mic jack information: http://puu.sh/6TLp9.png and here's the output one: http://puu.sh/6TLsE.png
As you may know, the Xonar xense got two analogical output, mic and heaphones (both 6.3mm). My question is simple: why in the world would windows think that a single 6.3mm output becomes 4 jacks outputs of 3.5mm?
It looks like a 5.1 jack config output to me (in the jack information) and that would explain the whole deal here: windows is probably giving to the output of say the subwoofer and would then create a (dynamic) balance issue.

Beside, the mic work but still, windows think it's a 3.5mm instead of 6.3. This proves that windows 8 is completely wrong about the whole sound card.

So yeah, how can I fix my issue? Any help is welcomed!

    Cheers from France. 😉

    Hey,

Trying to install UNi with C-Media Audio Panel, on a Xonar DX card, with Windows 7 x64.
But the installation process just continues on forever, even after the process bar reaches 100%, and the whole system hangs up repeatedly.

I've had it going on for +10mins without any results.
Old drivers are cleaned up, tried running with test mode and with ignore driver signatures etc.
And I've tried with every profile, without any success.

I got a dgx xonar card about a week ago. When i play a game or a movie i hear this annoying hissing sound in the back ground. My card was manufactured in 2012. I have disabled the on board audio card in BIOS. Can you tell me what could be the problem with my card and also a possible fix? Thank you.

    Hi there!

Xonar DG. Cannot get rid of that kinda 'swish' on the higher frequences. Pulling them lower makes the sound hollow and untransparent. Can it be fixed? Thank you.

Don't know what you are talking about. Pulling what lower?
Either there is nothing to fix or if there where I probably couldn't fix it. Maybe your card has a problem.

I am sorry to hear that. While it's possible the drivers included in 1.72 release could be faulty, it is also possible that this could have happened with 1.71 as well or any other drivers. I guess we will know more, if others report something like this too.
The noise was higher in volume? How high was your windows volume set? Which sound card do you have?

I have ASUS Xonar Essence STX. The sound is a super high volume sine which is not controllable from the volume control, you just have to unplugged the headphones.

It actually happened for the first time yesterday with 1.71 as well after hanging up a Skype call. Have been running 1.71 for a long time prior to upgrading to upgrading to 1.72 and downgrading again to 1.71 without any issues, so maybe this is related to a Win 8 update.

With 1.72 it happened frequently though, like after opening a new Windows Explorer window etc.

Thanks for the work you put into these drivers, hopefully this sorts itself out with future Asus updates, though it seems to be an issue which have been around for a long time without anyone being able to pinpoint it specifically.

Does anyone know anything about why I get what sounds like the CPU processor noise when i turn up my amp, I've tried different amps and PC's and its definately from the sound card? Only happens on analogue output SPDIF COAX is clean from the interference but the reason i bought this card was for the analogue out

Is there any way to make wasapi exclusive not be resampled? This is quite an annoying quirk and completely defeats the purpose of wasapi exclusive.

    Reply

    • Alt22 Feb 2014 @ 02:28

Generally WASAPI Exclusive should work with exactly the same SR as in track you're trying to play. What application (player, audio-editor) are you talking about? As I know AIMP2 and AIMP3 has resampler that works if output SR (chosen in player settings) doesn't match input (SR of audio track). Also as I know WASAPI Exclusive (unlike Xonar ASIO) can't set SR of device so it will work in mode that you've set in Windows/Xonar Control Panel.

I didn't go into more detail because, as blasphemous as it sounds, ASIO doesn't seem to sound the same as WASAPI exclusive even when the Windows and Xonar control panel is set to 24bit and the the same sampling rate as the audio in question (I'm using the Cmedia control panel and everything is set to be disabled or to their defaults)

I say blasphemous because any differences are supposed to be placebo, but I know of no way to do an ABX comparison between the two.
