For Win7x64 the best option is to install C-Media panel (GX enabled)option and Enable stereo upmix (personal preference)?

I'm actually confused about that too. As a gamer, it's important to me that I be able to enable GX for some games (for EAX/D3D support in pre-Vista games) and disable it for others (to avoid crashing or other bugs that GX causes in newer games). Having to pick whether GX is enabled or disabled at time of driver install and then not being able to change it on the fly is not really an acceptable solution. Would appreciate clarification.

GX can be disabled in C-media panel on Vista/Win7, its called Xear3D there, and if you are using Win XP you can launch the Asus Audio Panel and disable/enable GX from there. I know that on winxp it not an ideal solution.

What is the difference in your driver installer between choosing C-Media panel and C-Media panel (GX enabled)? Does it just set the default state of GX/Xear3D, or do I need to choose one install mode or the other to be able to later toggle GX/Xear3D at will?

Also, are GX and Xear3D identical things with different names, or are they two separate implementations of the same thing?

In the Panel GX/Xear3d button just changes a setting in the registry and passes it on to the sound driver. But for GX to actualy work it need to run 2 executable files (Hsmgr..) , and these files are normally always loaded with the normal/ original drivers, no matter if you use GX or not. With C-Media Panel those files aren't running, so thats mostly the reason why there are 2 versions of C-Media

it says its not a signed driver. let me try again. In both the original 7600 build and 7601 (SP1) build.

Its fine I got it to work. Thank you very much for the brilliant work. I might forward you on a little cash 😀

Tried installing the test builds on Win7 x64 SP1 with Xonar DX. No luck, got the Code 52 error in the device manager. Even tried installing them with the default options that are selected in the installer.

If it helps, UAC is set to Default and I am not running in the special test mode that allows unsigned drivers to be installed. The unsigned driver warning pops up for a split second during the driver install, but it goes away automatically.

I also see 3 checkboxes at the end, but I don't touch them because I have a Xonar DX.

Hi, i can install these drivers on my version of 7 Ultimate x64 without any service pack.
However, when my system goes into sleep-mode (not hybrid or anything) i get a BSOD. If i remember right, the main message is about the driver not handling the power mode in a right way (i forgot the exact error message).

If I disable driver signature enforcement it works, but I don't want to have to do that at every boot or jump through other hoops.

Hey Carved many thx again for your great work! I never had problems with your driver but since the version 1.30 i cant get them installed. I use only C-Media Panel with GX enabled option. I have Xonar D2X and Win 7 SP1 x64. I have tried anything i mean but it wont work wether with silent install or without checked. I also tested tb2 & tb 3 but none of them i get to work. I have unistalled 1.28 with ur uninstaller and driver cleaner but no way. only possible workaround is to install 1.30 drivers over 1.28 but that not a solution.

Afaik, disabling the driver signing is permanent and doesnt require you to do so at every reboot.

I installed SP1 yesterday evening.. the process went very slow, so i left the computer went to bed. When i woke up this morning i noticed the computer was into sleep-mode (even though i disabled that to prevent further BSODs) but it seems that all is fine now. It can wake up from standby/sleep now without any errors and such

I just installed my card with 1.30 driver, C-Media panel with GX and enabled 5.1upmix. However i have some issues. I can't get 5.1 upmix to work in anything other than 16bit/44.1kHZ. If i put 24/96 on windows soundcard properties it reverts to 2.1. Apart from that when i set it @ 16/44.1 it reverts my speakers into stereo ones in windows properties and that's the only way it can upmix stereo signals. In games also it doesn't sound as punchy as the X-Fi MB of my R2E nor as positional. I'm a bit disappointed by now. I don't know what to do and considering the fact of returning it...

My God how difficult is to produce an actual running soundcard...?

Same thing happens to games also. I must select 2 channel input on C-Media panel to get 5.1 sound. That's why there's poor positional audio in games...

      • CarvedInside24 Feb 2011 @ 16:07

If you check audio channels to 2 channels input and set the 5.1 speakers, thats not good, you won't get any position at all from the rear speakers, as the sound coming from the them is only a copy from the sound coming from the front speakers. You need to set 5.1 / 5.1 in the Audio Panel and also set 5.1 in the games you want to play to actually get surround positional audio.

About the 24/96 problems, try this with the Asus Audio Panel. Take your time with the card. Sound-wise it should be fine, maybe you checked a wrong option or so..

After many hours of testing, uninstalling/installing drivers i've come to a conclusion... 🙂
Indeed u need to change the speakers from 2 to 6 for music and games, new to Asus cards...
However one problem remains. If i set to anything higher than 48kHz in windows properties i cannot upmix stereo channels. It just plays stereo. So i have left it @ 24bit/48kHz, but would like to have it @ 24/96. In C-Media panel it's @96kHz but changing it doesn't affect anything, likes it's not "connected" with windows sound properties. If i'm not wrong (i'm a bit dizzy from testing) Asus latest drivers did same thing also.

I have to say that i more that i listen to it music sounds stellar and your drivers have clearly better sound, at least to me. Games sound perfect too. Happy with the card, if i solve the 24/48 prob.

Thanks again for your support ans SORRY for the long post... 🙂

I don't know if I help you with that 24/96KHz bug.
But just so you know setting sample rate to 96Khz won't make music and games sound better. Mp3's have a sample rate of 44.1 and dvd movies have 48 KHz. Setting a higher sample rate that required will actually decrease the sound quality.

    Hi CarvedInside,
I would like to ask if your computer(with Xonar DX?) has the same problem that i currently encountering.
I found that my WIN7 X64 has a strange problem: when i put my PC into standby mode, then I tried to have it turned on again, it sometime power off directly...I am still finding the reason why it happens. I suspect that may be it is due to the uni xonar driver, but i am not so sure. So I just want to ask if you or anyone else have the same problem, i have to know what really causes the problem.
Thank you! My English is not good, hope that you may understand what i am talking about :).

If the problem you've been having comes from Uni Xonar drivers, then in fact it would come from the latest C-Media base drivers.
To be sure, uninstall the drivers completely and try to reproduce the steps that cause the problem in the first place. Also try with the previous 1792 version, which is 1.26 .

So I tried 1.26, and the problem is still here... i think this may related to the SP1, but it will be troublesome to go back original WIN7...well, just leave it away

Well finally i confirmed that the problem is due to the SP1...cause I find that the other one has the same problem as I do. SO, the problem is NOT due to the nice uni xonar driver, ya, that's all.

Regarding the blue screen, its possible that this new drivers are at fault, will try to check this out later.
