Great driver, got rid of the aweful reverb thing with my 5.1 headset, but I still got bd 5.1 sound in source powered games (Left 4 dead 2, CSS, Half life 2....).
    Any idea? (Btw, I have a D2X)

      🙂 here are some tips:
      1. Do you have GX enabled? disable it!
      2. Be sure you don't have any other option enabled (like environment...)
      3. If you installed the drivers with Stereo Upmix enabled, try with it disable.
      4. Try an older version of the drivers, maybe the the bad sounding is because of this newest version.

Some time agout, I played Team Fortress 2 (Sourced based) and I had didn't notice a bad 5.1 sound.

Let us know if you manage to fix your problems.

Thanks for your (very) fast response.
In fact I have GX disabled, no upmix (or any other option). I've also noticed a strange issue in Bulletstorm (UE3 engine): I's like the front is lowered (sound much like if it was a suround source...). Gonna try previous version....

Hey again, much thx for Ur response Carved! I now have find the problem for me and i am sure its the silent install feature / unsigned driver question from windows get killed to fast or slow. I managed to install every build of the version 1.30 drivers but only with system cleaned completely with driver cleaner and then not checked the silent install option which i tried before ever the first time.without silent install option checked i can clearly see the warning message of unsigned driver from windows pops up for some milliseconds between the installation and everything works fine after installation and reboot. For me it makes clear that the silent install feature that comes with 1.30 driver builds is the problem my installation failure. I not need the feature so its not dramatic but maybe its help u. I now go for test build 5 and check it with silent install and without and report back whats happend!

Interesting, I'm not sure that this silent feature is the cause , but still it might be possible. It would really help if I would get the errors some of you guys have, cause things would be much easier to fix.

TB5 seems to have hung during installation: http://i52.tinypic.com/ehk56x.jpg

That status bar took a very long time to fill up too, and then nothing happened.

Update: After leaving it be for a good 5+ minutes, I finally got a "Please plug-in UNi Xonar Audio device!" popup with Retry and Cancel options. I just hit Retry and it looks likely to sit there another 5 minutes.

Tried to shutdown and the hung TB5 installer hung Win 7's shutdown process. Driver appears to be working but is listed as unsigned, and it doesn't seem to have installed the C-media control panel to allow me to activate the Xonar DX's optical output so I can't tell if it's actually able to produce sound.

Clarification: Actually I tried to restart, and it hung on "shutting down...". I then hit the reboot button on my case and the rest of my post describes the state of things after Win7 booted back up.

Re-installed normal 1.30 installer over the top of this botched install and now it seems to be happy. Would be nice to get a single end-to-end installer working though for future releases. To that end, I am willing to test installing other test builds.

After a failed silent install, the second-time around it works. I don't know why. Is it the same for everybody?

The speaker was muted and almost no sound was coming out. A reboot did the trick.I see other people complaining about the problem on the ASUS forum, but I don't know if it's driver specific.

Can you explain, end-to end installer I don’t get it.

What I mean is that it will be nice to get one installer that works, as opposed to having to use TB5 to install the driver itself, then forcing a reboot, then having to install regular 1.30 over the top of that to get the control panel and such.

    Thanks for working on this.

Thanks for that 🙂 Let me ask you, while installing TB5 did you got the driver signature prompt requesting your input?
You see, i made a custom driver installer that only installs the driver files without other things like asio or audio panels. When installing my installer would prompt for you to agree installing the unsigned drivers after that the original driver installation would run and install the missing pieces. As you are the only one that provided feedback for tb5, maybe if you have time you could try it again, but making sure you restart after uninstall.

The only two prompts I remember seeing were a license agreement popup, for which I clicked Yes (this seems to always pop up on your installers when I don't select silent mode), and the usual red unsigned drivers popup which always appears for only a split second and goes away on its own.

Honestly it looked just like when I tried to install with normal 1.30, or TB3&4 except for the fact that it froze during driver install as I mentioned previously.

I'll try uninstalling, restarting, and installing again as you ask, although I'm pretty sure I did it that way before.

I did exactly you asked, I thought that the ASIO 1.0 patch was necessary, so I unticked it.. sorry, just me being an imbecile! Just for the record. Do you install the tb3 by itself or do you try and install the original Uni Xonar 1793 v1.30 and then overwrite with tb3/tb2? Thanks Kevin.

Just as a rule, the necessary components and settings are always enabled 🙂

By it self, these test builds are meant to be replacements for the current version . Also there is a new build tb5, but test it only if you still have problems installing the normal one.

    TB5 on Win7 x64 SP1 with Xonar DX re-test notes:
    - Uninstalled, rebooted, ran ccleaner+driversweeper, rebooted again.
    - Ran TB5 installer, left Normal selected, checked Driver preinstall + Wizard installation option.
    - Selected "Next >", then Install. Got "extracting files..." popup, then license agreement popup.
    - Chose accept + ok. Got "Installing UNixonar Audio Driver..." popup, unregistered driver popup appeared and disappeared after a split-second... Installing driver status bar filled up slowly over the course of ~4min, but nothing happened when the bar reached full.
    - Opened windows device manager and noticed that it showed the driver as installed and working properly. It also showed the driver as being "not digitally signed".
    - Continued waiting on the installer (full status bar popup was still showing) until ~10 min since bar appeared (~6.5 min after it had reached full), at which point "Please plug-in UNi Xonar Audio device!" Retry/Cancel popup appeared.
    - Selected Retry and waited another ~5 min. Got Retry/Cancel popup again.
    - Selected Cancel this time, got a larger "Please plug-in UNi Xonar Audio device!" popup with only a Finish button.
    - Selected Finish. Got "Completing the ASUS XONAR Unified Drivers Setup Wizard" popup, with Finish button and 3 checkboxes for Xonar models that I don't have.
    - Selected Finish. At this point I believe the driver was installed correctly, but because no control panel software (Asus or C-Media) got installed, I couldn't switch on the SPDIF output to test it (my speakers are connected via optical SPDIF).
    - Ran the TB5 installer again, chose C-Media Panel (GX enabled) and Enable Stereo upmix. Left Driver preinstall unchecked.
    - Selected "Next >", then Install. Got "extracting files..." popup and a minimized command prompt window, then "Driver is installing. This will take no more than 60 seconds. Please wait..."
    - 5 minutes later (literally - so much for the will-complete-in-60-seconds message!) I got the "Completing the ASUS XONAR Unified Drivers Setup Wizard" popup, with Finish button and 3 checkboxes for Xonar models that I don't have again.
    - Selected Finish. Still didn't see a C-Media or Asus control panel in the system tray, start menu, or windows control panel.
    - Selected start menu -> restart. Noticed that windows "Shutting down..." screen stayed up for over 5 minutes.
    - Did a hard reset. Noticed that there was still no Asus/C-Media control panel installed.
    - Ran the regular 1.30 installer with C-Media Panel (GX enabled), Silent install, and stereo upmixing enabled. Installer finished in around 15 seconds and did not prompt me to reboot.
    - Selected Finish. C-Media control panel had appeared in the system tray. Switched to Dolby Digital Live mode and everything worked fine.

    Conclusions:
    - TB5 seems able to install the driver successfully, but not the control panel software (if you run with preinstall checked, then run again with it unchecked). It also seems to go into a loop thinking that the Xonar is not connected, until you hit Cancel.
    - The result of installing just TB5 is unusable for me because I need either the Asus or C-media control panel to be able to switch on the Xonar's SPDIF output.
    - Another result of installing TB5 is that it also caused Windows 7 x64 SP1 to hang while shutting down to restart, which is pretty bad because it necessitated a hard reset.
    - After a reboot, the regular 1.30 installer was able to install the C-media control panel without harming the TB5 driver installation. This results in a fully-usable state with the TB5 driver and regular 1.30 control panel(s). However, I had to go through most of the above pain to achieve this state.
    - At a minimum it would be nice to have the driver install complete without going into the Retry/Cancel loop, *and* not hanging Windows shutdown when rebooting.

Things I could have tried but didn't:
    - Install TB5 with driver preinstall checked, then regular 1.30 (both without rebooting).
    - Install TB5 with driver preinstall checked, then reboot, then install TB5 with drive preinstall unchecked.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. From what you are saying, I think my installer works but the original installer doesn't, meaning that only the actual audio driver files are installed. Will try to improve my installer without having to rely on the original asus one for the other components.

In case the driver doesn't install the messages will show still that it successfully installed so sorry for that misleading message.

With BitDefender 2011 it asks me whether or not to allow the files during installation. So, maybe your anti-virus program could be blocking the installer?

    Just a thought...
