For what it is worth, here is my experience with this... I have a new build PC with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit on the Asus P8P67-Pro (B3) Motherboard with the onboard Realtek ALC892 audio enabled for front panel audio, I have Xonar D2X for games and general music linked up to X-540 speakers and also a M-Audio Audiophile 192 PCI card for music production linked up to some studio monitor speakers. I came across your driver looking for a solution to a muffled rear-right speaker (I tried re-seating the Xonar card, checking the floppy power to it, etc). Anyway to cut long story short, your drivers work fine but the muffled speaker problem was not a driver issue. It was a dodgy connection to the Logitech X540 bass-box. So to all: you can have multiple sound cards installed fine it seems, it shouldn't be a problem. Anyway, I wanted to show my appreciation for the hard work on this driver you have done and for providing support to the many users which have found themselves here (those which Asus should be helping themselves really). Small donation sent. It really says something about you and you deserve a medal! π If I have a problem in the future, I know where to come. Best regards to you and all.

Thank you very much for the donation and your appreciation.
I try to do my best and help ease the bitter-disappointment that many Xonars owners have.
Thank you again and wish you the best!

Rather than me make an account on the ASUS forums, which my browser does not want me to, I think I'll just ask here.
Have you heard of anyone with distortion in games? Everything else, music, literally plays fine. But I'll get crackling in games at only CERTAIN times. (League of legends, only on the towers 3rd shot, the shot will crackle at the beginning.) (Shadow of Chernobyl, only when I rotate my head.) ETC.
Also the way it sounds, seems to be duplicated by moving the volume slider on youtube up and down very fast, it makes it crackle on certain videos...have you heard of anyone else with this problem, and does anyone here have it?
Rondel19 Mar 2011 @ 21:12
Hello Dave,
Try to run the games without GX enabled - also try disabling hardware mode in the games' options. See if it helps. Oh, and obviously install the UniDrivers :D.
good luck!
Dave19 Mar 2011 @ 22:38
DX? You mean GX?
and yes I have the latest C-MEDIA UniXonars.
CarvedInside20 Mar 2011 @ 14:27
From what I remember no one reported something like this. Just checked through mails and comments with relevant results.
The only similar issue with cracking in music is <a href="http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20110109004350988&board_id=21&model=Xonar+D2%2fPM&page=1&SLanguage=en-us" rel="nofollow">this.
Maybe you can record the sound cracking and upload it.
Does this happen with older drivers (like 126, or 1.11)? Do you have some options enabled like environment or Dolby effects? Just to be sure try reinstalling the driver without changing other options except speakers setup.
Dave20 Mar 2011 @ 19:02
Will record and upload, this happens on the ASUS drivers as well. I haven't tested older Uni drivers though.
Also all music plays fine. No problems in the music department.
I’d also like to add that programs volumes sliders work fine. Only “Youtube” crackles, which I guess means flash videos.

This is a GREAT page. One week ago a bought the "ASUS XONAR DX" and I have to say: "Boycott the Creative Manufacturer - please - and go for a C-MEDIA Soundchip."
Keep on tuning the drivers .... !!!

Hi there! Can somebody please help me? I decided to install these new drivers for my Xonar DS card and it works great. But when I'm using Cubase 5 there's no sound at all now. Yes, I have Xonar Asio driver selected, though I can't open its control panel now, strange.
Then I tried and installed Asio 1.0 Patch and after that the sound returned! So I just don't understand, does Cubase not support Xonar Asio 2.0 drivers and only works with ver 1.0 OR I'm missing something? I just don't get it. BTW, is there any difference between Asio 1.0 and 2.0 regarding the performance? Thanks
CarvedInside21 Mar 2011 @ 10:21
From what I know there might be problems with ASIO 2.0 and Cubase. I'm not familiar with Cubase but one thing you could try is to remove all the Asio device configuration in Cubase (if its possible).
Technically ASIO 2.0 should be better, but its current implementation is bad imho, and its use is limited by being "sound exclusive" which could be the case with it not working with Cubase.
Another solution could be to use Asio4all instead of applying ASIO 1.0 patch.
Shao21 Mar 2011 @ 01:57

ASIO 1.0 patch
Problem:
BSOD after 5 secs in the mp3 playback
CarvedInside21 Mar 2011 @ 10:14
Try to do a reinstall. Use driver sweeper after uninstall.
Also remove and reconfigure Asio virtual devices in Foobar.
If this doesn't work you should try without Asio 1.0 Patch and with ASIO4ALL.

Hello Carved!
Any news about the Xonar-Thunderbolt thing?
Winnie
CarvedInside21 Mar 2011 @ 14:40
Unfortunately the files are very different. From the looks of it those drivers can't be modded for our cards, as it looks like Xonar Thunderbolt doesn't use CMI7888 chip with PCI/PCIe communication and instead it uses a USB solution, similar to Xonar U1 (and yes I know ThunderBolt is plugged in the PCI-E slot).
husmoaschta21 Mar 2011 @ 17:48
That's a pity!
Some RoomEQ-functionality would have been very cool. (What a scandal that it's not implemented by ASUS for their premium Product HDAV1.3deluxe!)
Con22 Mar 2011 @ 15:09
What about to use KS (Kernel Streaming)? This is native Windows engine. It works well in XP as in Win7. If Cubase have support for KS, just use this. In my opinion KS works better than Asio. Xonar support well KS.
I suggest to all who has problems with ASIO, that use KS. Is the same basicly, only that ASIO is a standard used by the most studios. KS do the same thing as ASIO, and more is an native windows engine.
And something else (also important in my opinion). Is about timer resolution. This Timer is the clock in the computer with is controlled by windows. This is bad controlled... I mean the resolution of this clock is set as default on 10-15 ms depends of hardware the windows is running. This resolution means that one pulse clock is set by windows to happen every 10 or 15 ms. What happens in between is out of control.. This mean jilter in all what is streamed in the machine (video/audio). This clock resolution is very important in streaming process as well in data flux in and out of hard disks. All about audio/video in PC system is about streaming. Setting this timer resolution lower than the default will improve much the jitter in the streaming process in the computer and in audio/video card functions. It is an application/software witch make possible to sett this clock pulses to max resolution. This depends much on the motherboard hardware and the main processor. I personally use an i7 2,4Ghz and an ASUS with P55 chip set. It give me 0,5ms max resolution.
Just google about this and you will find this application for make this timer resolution max as possible. Modify this resolution will not make the machine faster, but all the streaming in the computer will work much smoother. It has impact too in video streaming, video card functions (FPS), games. and on audio is a good improvement, but for hear this it has to has an well HIFI system connected to the computer, as a quality audio card as well. I do mean that ASUS ST/STX is not at all a top HiFi audio card. But may be with huge hardware modifications.
So, just try these above...

Thx you are probably right. The reason I asked is because I want to remove any non constructive or irrelevant comments.
Btw regarding your comment with kernel streaming I have to check things out, I too use Kernel streaming but don't know if it the same as ASIO. Anyway thanks for your input on this.
con24 Mar 2011 @ 15:23
As a rule, I think that it has to be removed every text in this forum witch is not in English.
Else, I want to come back to Timer Resolution subject from my previous comment.
Here is to see a big difference between XP and win7. While XP sett this Timer Resolution to a fix default value (15ms), no mater the hardware is running on, Win7 is more adaptive to the computer hardware. But unfortunately not enough adaptive... On my system with win7 installed (and on my hardware) this resolution was sett to 1ms. While with the Timer resolution application I succeed to increase this to 0.5ms. Anyway is a fact that the streaming process is better in win7 system than in XP. And this could be very well because this detail. It seems that better resolution on this clock have much impact in SATA. This is basically a serial streaming process in the machine between the chip set and the hard disks. Better clock resolution in this disk transfer interface, means less errors to be corrected. So, better transfer speed., I`ve registered actually a bigger transfer rate with SATA hard disks after I`ve modified the resolution of this clock. This is a confirmation more that the streaming process in general is much improved by this higher clock resolution.
Is good to hear about other observations in this subject. Anyway I`m enough satisfied about the results in audio streaming after this improvement...

First of all - thanks for your great work.
I know, this may sound stupid and kinda offtopic, but... Is there any way to flip 7.1 output front2rear and fit it into "5.1", like center is split in front channels and back surround is mix into "center". It's for one/two-person PC-based "theatre" where real front center is bad thing, but why not use it as BACK center (for 5.1 speaker system and 7.1 sound source).
Already tried "virtual speaker" setup, but after quick chack in registry set that aside - there's no way to split center in "VSpeakerPos" map.
I can mix signals in amplifier, but i think "soft" way is more flexible. And something like Audio Routing by Native Sound Processor require to much C2H6O to understand (cost topic cast aside).
Sorry for my bad english.
Oh, sorry. Forgot to mention, own Xonar DX.
CarvedInside29 Mar 2011 @ 23:01
Hello & sorry for the late response.
Gave it some thoughts about what you are asking and I'm afraid it isn't possible.
Still I have an idea of what you could do. You could try and connect the speaker cables to different jacks to the audio card. The big problem I see with this is bass channel being send to one of the front speakers. Still you should give it a shot. Additionally you could use a channel mixer that lets you fine control the sound output in your player/ media player. I think Media Player Classic has something like this.
You english seems fine:)
enoch0030 Mar 2011 @ 23:17
Hi, CarvedInside
Thanks again!Sorry if this sound confusing please, bear with me!
But, I'm having strange issues lately with instance of all sounds playing in slow-motion whether it's windows or games/music.The only way to fix is to restart the pc.
I use these programs:
GBoost http://www.gzero.com/gboost/home.html
and
Steam http://store.steampowered.com/about/
I have steam running at startup and all times but, when I use the gboost software to switch to "gaming mode" or back to normal mode I observe my DPC latency skyrocket into the 2000+ until I exit/restart the Steam program.
Also, it seems to trigger this slow-motion issue when I switch back to "normal mode" at random times.Do you have any idea what may cause these compatible issues?
CarvedInside03 Apr 2011 @ 13:53
Hi,
I thought about your problem, but sadly I don't have something concrete to say. Gboost turns off some of windows services ,which could include some of the network and audio services and Steam could be tapped on some of them. If you have the list of services that Gboost stops, you should manually stop and start each one and see which of these causes the problem.
AVG01 Apr 2011 @ 22:40
Good time of the day, CarvedInside.
Thanks for your reply. I get the idea...
I'll try to make pair of Y-cables with resistors for the time being. But this way it's not compatible with most of the surround effects - it will sound funny ^_^
How about enabling 4.1/6.1 modes in driver? Or such modes is not available anymore?
Using 4.0 for now.
P.S.:
<blockquote cite="#commentbody-1838">
CarvedInside :

CarvedInside03 Apr 2011 @ 18:59
Thats good:)
Regarding 4.1 /6.1 modes, this is a very tricky situation, as in most of the cases the subwoffer isn't using a independent input, and instead it uses the signals from front and rear channels .
"The big problem I see with this is bass channel being send to one of the front speakers."- The center jack output is also shared with subwoffer (even if it isn't used this way), in terms of connecting 2 normal speakers to the center output, the center signal is lets say the left speaker and subwoffer is the right speaker.
AVG04 Apr 2011 @ 02:28
Hmm... "I get the idea…" - i understand that's not possible, not "i get an idea how to..." π
About sub signal mixing in amp and cable connecting - i know how hardware works (that's my speciality, BTW). But i'm deeply lost in some software cases. Seems i dig just to deep to see simple meaning.
Back to our sheeps: 0.1 channel is LFE channel, not low-frequency sound. Frankly speaking, i don't know where goes EFFECTS channel in x.0 configs. I don't think vibrosubwoofer will be happy working all the time with "zero" to 200 Hz frequencies (mixed in your average multimedia system). Applying low friq filter it's not a solution, coz (IMHO) LFE channel simply missing in x.0 configs.
In older card there was 4.1 option, but not anymore. π
Well, topic drifting away to fast. Don't want to bother you further... If 4.1/6.1 modes not disabled but unsupported - i just stick with soldering iron and make my own HARDWARE way out of that jam. π
Oh, one more thing: does *Delay options work being twicked directly in registry, or i have to load c-media panel to apply or make changes?
CarvedInside04 Apr 2011 @ 12:06
oh I see.:) I thought you were referring to the idea I had.
I think I understand that you are saying regarding 4.0 and 4.1 and having a dedicated output ( LFE channel) for the subwoffer. From what I could gather, 4.1 and 6.1 modes don't exist in the current drivers. But I can't be 100% sure, so if I find that they are implemented but disabled, I will enable them.
Yes the delay settings are applied directly through registry , no need to load c-media panel to enable them.
shon3i04 Apr 2011 @ 00:04
First thanks for you work, otherwise i thinked to sell mine DX card because i had lagging ASIO in foobar and upmix not worked very well (rear channel delays). Now all problems gone, but new are come :).
Only way to fix that asio lagging and crackle playblack is to install Low Latency, unfortunately everytime driver refuses to start since is not signed properly. Also 1.30 or TB5 not solve problem. Only C-media panel is installed without problem and without AISO patch, but i read that ASIO patch can be installed after, unfortunately this installs patch but not work as should, i get error in foobar.
Anyway. i still managed to install low latency using Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider 1.3b can be found here http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=dseo. I hope will help other users.
I must ask did you plan to fix this signature issues?, and since i prefer ASIO output when possible, did i can enforce that when i use ASIO, that ASIO use exclusively to prevent other sounds playing besides player that use ASIO. Did maybe ASIO4ALL will preform better ?
Thanks
CarvedInside04 Apr 2011 @ 11:43
First of all, have you tried driver cleaning with the latest Driver Sweeper (2.9.0) after you've uninstalled the previous drivers?
Secondly, maybe some of your settings are wrong and thats why asio is lagging or cracks. Set lantency to 20-30 ms (or more) and output to 24 bit.
When you install the ASIO 1.0 Patch you might need to remove ASIO virtual devices from FOOBAR and re add them.
It seems like the drive signature errors are from the remaining files of the previous drivers, so by using driver sweeper this shouldn't be a problem.
Not sure what you are saying here but, using default asio (without asio patch), Asio output will be sound exclusive.
I don't know you should check ASIO4ALL too if you have problems.

Hi,CarvedInside.
UNi Xonar is a great driver, but I can't use it,
It seems not working after the installation despire I select normal/C-media or GX enabled. No sounds from my speakers:-(
However,I noticed that "Wave" has a signal input when I play songs.("Wave" is in microsoft sound setting and it is below "stereo Mix".)
And there is no such problem when I was using original xonar driver...:-(
*I am using Xonar DG,is that a problem?
CarvedInside04 Apr 2011 @ 12:10
Have you uninstalled previous drivers and use Driver Sweeper(2.9) to clean the remaining files before installing the latest Uni xonar drivers? Please try this.
No, its not a problem as it works with Xonar DG.
ppp094104 Apr 2011 @ 13:25
Yes, I have done it! I used ccleaner to remove regedit files as well.
Moreover, I found that my speakers work again if I open Xonar DG Audio Center instead of UNi Xonar Audio Center.
CarvedInside06 Apr 2011 @ 09:44
Maybe the channels need to be remapped on a different configuration and this can only be done by launching Asus Xonar Audio center. Anyone else with Xonar DG can confirm this?

I uninstall ASIO 1.0 Patch and now it works!!
Gattsu04 Apr 2011 @ 06:15
Hello, I have a bit of a problem with these drivers since last format...
I really hope someone else has gone through the trouble I have and has some solution to the issues.
I've been using W7 ultimate for more than half a year. I have a Xonar DX sound card.
I've used official drivers from the asus website, they gave me BSOD. Tried the ones on the disc, same thing. Until I found these. They also fixed the ability to use ASIO and KS audio outputs in foobar (previously, KS was IDENTICAL to DS), and the ability to have any of these outputs in Foobar while other applications (games, youtube through firefox, etc) had sound. I have used versions v1.26, v1.27 and v1.28-v3 (third revision). I have downloaded v1.30 but haven't used them till now.
I have reformatted the computer and installed W7 Ultimate SP1. From the start, I have had the trouble of NOT being able to install the drivers with the asio patch, but I discovered I had to install the same driver twice, as mentioned above.
However, right now, I have installed v1.30 from the beginning, but DS = KS, ASIO crashes all the time, and applications are muted when either KS or ASIO is selected.
I must say that, when the drivers work (aside from the issues mentioned above), the Speakers' volume bar appears muted (in Windows-> Control Panel-> Sound Output). Instead, volume activity appears on the Wave output (Stereo Mix).
Please reply, thank you.
Just adding a bit of info…
I’ve tried driver 1.26 again, without ASIO patch, normal mode (I’ve been using C-media center so far), and KS works OK, ASIO does not seem to crash. But whenever these modes are enabled, as stated previously, any other application is redirected to the digital output (s/pdif pass through device), where I have nothing plugged in at all, thus creating no sound.
CarvedInside06 Apr 2011 @ 09:41
Hello,
I don't think I've encountered anyone with your problems.
This is interesting, but from what I can gather a part of the problem might be from Windows 7 SP1. If you have the possibility to uninstall it you should do it and try and see if the symptoms occur.
A suggestion regarding sound being redirected to the digital output. Try disable S/PDIF from windows volume control (playback devices) .
You should try with a portable Foobar version, as maybe there are some settings enabled in the your normal Foobar installation.
One question, how did you enabled KS in Foobar, and how do you know that the output is the same as DS?
Gattsu06 Apr 2011 @ 10:34
The thing is, I have been trying different versions of Windows 7 (Pro N [came with SP1], Ultimate [Installed SP1 on top of a fresh format] and Enterprise (comes with SP1)), and, other than that the N version does not come with Windows Media Player, they are quite much the exact same thing.
This... 'problem' arose in all version of windows.
I've been reading the details of each of the releases and found the main problem (about which I really care the most), the sound exclusivity using kernel streaming in Foobar player.
I therefore can discard SP1 safely and so the foobar version (I've tried both 1.1.1 and 1.1.6, although no portable, which I will try right now).
The only difference between my previous windows and these were the fact that I had official drivers installed first. In these, I began using the unified from scratch.
I have also tried disabling all but the main sound input (microphone) and output (headphones connected to the rear speakers' end) in windows.
As to your question, I find it quite easy, by switching the output. No, seriously. Way before, ASIO & KS were GODLIKE, while DS seemed like filtered crap. A friend of mine gave me the 'foobar essentials'. It included a 'component' folder, together with some dolby .dll's for surround, as well as the Columns UI.
Right now (regardless of sound exclusivity, as long as ASIO & KS were working), DS sounds very good. While a song is playing, if I switch to KS, and back and forth really quickly, there is so little difference, if at all. It doesn't even 'tick' when I switch between them, indicating the transition. I can't even tell the difference between them.
ASIO on the other hand sounds... not intense at all, quite much like DS in the old days. It's as if DS & KS were playing at a 100% volume output, while ASIO was at 50% and, at the same time, less clear (as if the driver settings were messing with it).
I have been using Driver sweeper & normal windows uninstall. I tried the official 1777 drivers, and installed v1.28- third revision (2.0.0.2 ASIO update) on top, after uninstalling the official, but not using driver sweeper... and it sort of worked for KS, but ASIO was still broken. There, it was possible to see the difference quite easily, as intended.
Right now I've done the same for 1777 and installed v1.30 and I've run again into the exact same problem.
I've also noticed that with most (if not all) installations, while using Kernel Streaming, sound would "pop" (interrupted for an instant) if I typed something with a windows box selected (as if, for example, looking for a song in the Music folder). Holding the key would mute the sound.
CarvedInside07 Apr 2011 @ 12:25
Regarding Foobar portable , be sure to download the latest components you need (KS and ASIO plugins), and don't copy any settings from your normal foobar installation.
When I have more time I will try to test myself foobar with KS and Win7SP1.
Gattsu07 Apr 2011 @ 20:00
Alright, I'll try that right away.
Just in case, I have the Xonar DX card since about a year. My onboard soundcard is disabled (SoundMax), no drivers installed.
I also have an ATI 5870 with the latest drivers (for whatever reason, it also installs audio drivers, thought worth mentioning).
Should I try Winamp, too?
I have always used these settings:
Windows:
Audio -> 16 bit, 44.100HZ (CD quality)
Foobar (& components, in this order):
KernelStreaming
Advanced Limiter
Convert Stereo to 4 channels
Resampler (SoX)
Equalizer (custom "Rock" settings).
Within the Xonar drivers, I have always selected:
Headphones
Digital Audio (192KHz)
S/PDIF Output (PCM)
Virtual 7.1 surround speakers
Dolby Headphone (room #2).
How do I modify the comments (in order to add more stuff after I'm done with foobar?).
CarvedInside09 Apr 2011 @ 17:48
Thats a lot of settings and plugins, this could actually be the cause of the problem. Yes try with winamp as well, but try to is it with only minimal plugins, in your case with KS plugin only.
You can't edit your comments π . I sometimes merge them , if someone wants to add something.
Gattsu08 Apr 2011 @ 09:14
There is a firmware update for the Xonar DX (really old, from end of 2008), under "Downloads -> Vista x64" from the ASUS site. Should I apply it?
CarvedInside09 Apr 2011 @ 17:50
Depends on how long did you bought your card as newer cards already come with this, but might be worth it as it fixes more problems they actually say.
