I'm not sure I understand, in your case in youtube the sound is coming from only the 2 front speakers and woofer, regardles if you check stereo upmix or not?

As it seems like that for Win7 & Vista the stereo upmix doesn't affect youtube and winamp anymore, and from what I noticed it might not work at all.

But you can enable Dobly Pro Logic and this should upmix the L & R signals to all the speakers.

It doesn't surprise me that upmix would not work in Vista/7, as the new audio stack apparently makes it difficult to determine how many channels an application might be wanting to use. This is why the Asus & C-Media control panels make you specify how many channels of input you intend to work with.

On Windows XP, on the other hand, it can be assumed the WaveOut is stereo and DirectSound3D may be up to 5.1 or 7.1.

At one point many years ago I was using the kX Project drivers on an old Creative card to route WaveOut through a surround decoder and mix it into the DS3D outputs so that I would get surround decoding of cutscenes in games that also used DS3D for surround during gameplay.

Gonna start a new comment to avoid messing with the page width.

I just installed 1.31 drivers on top of whatever I had (it does have the cleanup stage, doesn't it?), and everything worked fine.

Uninstalled foobar, tried the portable with just the KS and ASIO output components. Tried WINAMP with KS & ASIO.

Then I did a complete uninstall (deleted all the possible driver files, as if formatted), and applied 1.31 drivers again, and the problems showed up :p.

DS is normal, KS made me jizz, but mutes all other applications. Also, should ASIO be controlled through windows volume settings? Because, way before, it was only affected by the volume settings of my headphones, and it sounded much better, too.

    Oh well.

I tried playing with some settings and found out that, under default settings, windows says both outputs are being used (S/PDIF Pass-through Device, nothing connected into it, and Speakers [Headphones]).

What's more to it, windows indicates clearly that the sound is being played within the S/PDIF Pass-through Device, as the volume bar is active. However, disabling/lowering the volume does not do anything at all.

This is a bit retarded, but even if I disable all of the possible sound outputs (speakers and digital audio, which I am not using), I still have sound:

      [merged comments]
No intention to spam comments, but here’s what happens if Winamp is set to KS, while a video is being played in the background:
      http://s4.postimage.org/6m4rtjqa0/why3.jpg

(Using 1.31 with ASIO patch & GX, on top of 1.30 without ASIO patch).

I guess, since nothing is connected to the digital output, there is no sound. But how do I redirect the normal sound to my speakers? Any tips? Driving me crazy.

Re-read all your previous comments and tried to reproduce the problem you've been having. I didn't encounter any problems.

The reason why its showing that the sound is playing within S/PDIF is because you enable it in the settings - S/PDIF Output (PCM). I'm not sure why did you checked that box, as you are using analog connector (jacks) for headphones, right?
Another setting thats off, is the sample rate being 192KHz . In case you didn't know, you most likely don;t need that much as it will only degrade your quality. All mp3's are 44.1 KHz, DVD movies are in 48 KHz, and you will rarely find something that has a bitrate of 96KHz. My suggestion would be to switch it to 44.1 KHz.

Sound still works if you disable the the sound outputs, because when using ASIO and KS you bypass windows volume (control management).

Another thing KS isn't sound exclusive, as in your case, I really don;t know whats with that as this is what it should be, meaning if you play something with KS output selected, you can still hear any other sounds from applications.

Please test things with the proper settings. Really don't know what else I could say.

Oh, I'm sorry, I actually meant to say the opposite. Using KernelStreaming (be it with Foobar or WinAmp), all other sound is muted, as if I used WASAPI.

Thanks for the tips, I had those settings enabled because previously everything worked fine with those, so I thought it would be good to stick with them.

I do use analog jacks for headphones, will switch to CD quality, and disable PCM.

I don't really care about any other output rather than being able to use KS in foobar and have sounds in all other applications, but, alas, it just doesn't work right now.

What is, precisely, the 'tick' that the sound card does while booting and/or reinstalling drivers? It also lights up a red LED or so it should.

Thanks for the heads up either way :).

1.31 installed quickly and without issues. Looks like you solved 1.30's installation issues (at least in my case). Thanks!

I should mention that the only way I could think of to verify that they were installed was to launch the Asus panel (undesirable since I chose C-Media panel as the default one to use) and opened the info window to see the ASIO version.

This reminded me that right-clicking the system tray icon for the Asus panel seems to be the only place I can access ASIO options for UNi Xonar - is this correct?

I should mention that I installed over 1.30 instead of doing a clean install, since you mentioned it should have a high chance of success.

Good thought, as Asus Panel offer more information about the components that are currently installed.
Yes thats correct, there is no other place with Uni Xonar to access ASIO options, except from the actual program that uses ASIO (Foobar). Regarding this, I don't know if you've noticed the link to the "Asio settings viewer" program.

Explicitly I tried to say that after uninstall, this will clean any of the remaining files. But yes its also useful for when updating the drivers.

Where is the link to the "ASIO settings viewer" program? I don't remember seeing anything in the UNi Xonar start menu folder except for the ASUS Xonar control panel and either an uninstall link or a readme link (don't remember which).

The only program I have installed right now that uses ASIO is Cakewalk Music Creator, but I rarely use its recording functionality as Audacity is much better at it.

I was really just looking up the ASIO version as a way to tell whether the driver actually got updated, and it reminded me of the control panel issue.

I just try to install 1.31 and it's same problem with signature. And it's completlly same behavior as 1.30. I switched back from "test" mode and i try to upgrade but is same

Here is log from device manager

Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)

Thank you so much for these drivers ! I have had a week of hell with the original Asus drivers.coming from Creative I thought Asus support would be better..boy was I wrong.
Anyway I have a xonar deluxe and installed the Cmedia Control centre version with GX enabled. However there is no button in the Cmedia panel for GX.. then I noticed I can also launch the original HDAV centre too and it has GX enabled. Is it bad to have both panels running at the same time ?

Thx so much. Donation will definitely be coming soon...hit a financial slump at the moment .. πŸ™

Thx so much for your work... you have alleviated so many worries !!!!

Actually .. after further testing I found 2 issues so far with this driver.
Using analog it swaps centre/subwoofer channels on default and I cant get any sound from centre channel whilst subwoofer is nice and strong. If I untick swap channels then I get centre channel but subwoofer becomes too weak to even notice.

Also I found a significant drop in frame rates during Crysis 2. With standard Asus
drivers I was getting 25 framerates on hardcore mode. Now using the Uni drivers
Im getting 14 to 15 framerates (only using FRAPS)

Is there any reason for this ? I know your drivers fixed many problems for me but
if it means reducing framerates for games then unfortunately even tho Im reluctant
Il have to go back to Standard Asus drivers.

BTW also tries enabling and disabling GX as well as installing ASIO patch but no change.
      Thx

I try to do my best to ease the disappointment , that is Xonar drivers & their total lack of support. πŸ™‚
I don;t know what windows you have, on XP Cmedia panel doesn't have an enable/disable button so with C-Media Panel with GX , GX is enabled by default. On Win7/Vista GX option has another name, Xear3D.

Thanks for considering to donate, no worries anytime is a good time!:)

What is the difference between installing the C-Media panel with GX enabled versus disabled on Win7?

        • CarvedInside11 Apr 2011 @ 22:59

With C-Media Panel with GX also autostarts Hsmgr.exe which is actually responsable for EAX emmulation. From what I know, previously original Xear3D implementation didn't had or needed Hsmgr.

Those error messages aren't in English, but they look like they might be saying "Access denied". This indicates that Windows is not allowing the driver files to be overwritten. Try booting up in Safe Mode and running driver sweeper as Administrator.

No, the errors are because it doesn't find the files that where supposed to be deleted, but there is interesting thing, as it Hsmgr.exe is still running in the background. Mjolkspam, try to restart after uninstalling the drivers, then run the uni installer.

For the rest of the guys, I will try to answer to all the previous comments by tomorrow.

Unable to verify the digital signature of the drivers required for this unit. A recent change in hardware or software might have installed a file that is not properly signed, that is damaged or that could be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52).

Thats'swhat the device manager says about my soundcard after i've installed it etc. No hsmgr.exe running. It went perfectly fine, accept that ofc.

forgot i got W7 in Swe now ^^ But yex, it’s Access denied.

I tried 1.31 to see if it fixed the installation problems but I'm having exactly the same problem I had before, installation waits for a very long time and in the end it says "plugin your asus card" or something like that. I have asus d2.

I am not sure but beware that there might be some problems with signed driver forcing from windows.there where also 2 updates from MS the last time cause of this after SP1 was coming out. so i recommend u to install 1.30 only in windows test mode cause if not there will be problems. I e.g. had the problem that SP1 wont even install with the driver pack 1.30 not installed correctly. But sice i use test moode to install it works fine.Dont know about 1.31. I installed them normal but without cleaning my system from 1.30.

After changing Analog Out to FP, nothing is changing... I have sound in my headset only when i choose headset like a default hardware in system settings...
Moreover, only speakers have Xonar drivers, my headset is using standard drivers.... i cannot find any other in my PC.
    sorry for my English.
