Hi, I have a problem with my Xonar Essence STX, I jsut posted on Asus forum here http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=2011102318...
where you can see my problem explained. I uninstalled the Asus drivers and used yours, hoping the problems would disappear, but nothing's changed unfortunately. I started to think maybe these products are just incompatible and I should give up on my STX and g oback to my onboard sound, as much as it sucks in quality, or maybe buy something from Creative, I don't know... although from what I hear Creative sucks even worse.
If you have any ideas about solving my problem... Thx 🙂
CarvedInside26 Oct 2011 @ 11:20
I don't know how to solve your problem. Still here are some suggestions:
- install the latest drivers for you TV-Tunner if you didn't do this
- go to Device Manager and select the xonar sound card and double click it, go to proprieties tab, look though those options it might be something that you can change.
- do the same as above but for the TV-Tunner Audio codecs (or whatever it shows).
But if you don't manage to fix things. Its better to return the card and get a Creative one instead.
Eddie02 Nov 2011 @ 00:24
I had already done everything you said, but nothing improved. And the dealer wouldn't exchange it for another brand, as far as they're concerned, the product is ok. thx 🙂

Have you tried lowering the volume of the tv tuner in windows volume mixer? Here's a screenshot:

hi - i think i answered you on the asus forum 🙂

Please is it possible to create a switcher for Headphones and Speakers, even not from Front Panel? Maybe with the ability to use a shortcut to change them, so for example we could switch from in-game without having to alt-tab, open xonar/cmedia panel and click on the menus.
CarvedInside26 Oct 2011 @ 08:50
It can be done, but for the keyboard switching you will have to use autohotkey for example.
The thing is I don't think the game sound will work after using this inside a game, because it disables/enables the sound card again to load the new settings. This is not a ideal way at all but for now is the only way I can make it work.
NotoriousPyro24 Oct 2011 @ 20:46
These fixed my audio stuttering problem with Livestream Procaster.
Although they seemed to kill the right-stereo output on my headphone jack. I've had to use the speaker out with an adapter until I figure out what has broken (probably the opamp).
Installing the official drivers didn't fix it either, it just wouldn't work like it used to.
Might just be a coincidence, though.
Thanks for these though, the speaker output will suffice until I figure out what's happened and at least it solved my issue of stuttering.
CarvedInside26 Oct 2011 @ 09:28
I think its a coincidence and in fact its a hardware problem. Still it might be a bug in these latest drivers that could cause this so to rule this out try an older driver version (Asus or UNi).
Rob24 Oct 2011 @ 21:38
Hi ! Im curious to know whats the difference between xonar latest original driver from asus site and unified "normal" install. Would it be more or less the same or any benefits ? Thx
CarvedInside26 Oct 2011 @ 09:33
Hi, no its not the same. Please look in this post for UNi Xonar Features.
JustinD25 Oct 2011 @ 10:13
1. You are totally the man for these drivers, which have been working perfectly!...
2. ... until tonight, when on a normal reboot, Windows 7 64-bit is now complaining that the drivers aren't signed. Out of the blue, zero hardware or software changes, and zero *recent* Windows updates installed.
Data points, FWIW!
- Uninstalled all latest (from about a week ago) Windows updates, Security and otherwise.
- Uninstalled the Uni drivers, including checking registry for any cruft.
- Unlike earlier when the drivers (both these and official Asus ones) worked, the install takes almost no time. Previously, it'd take upwards of 2 minutes, but afterwards things would be in working order.
- The kicker: tried to install the official Asus drivers. No luck there either - same issue with the drivers not being digitally signed. This is the oddness. Maybe a certificate expired somewhere? Phooey.
Hope that helps - specifically that last point, which seems bizarro.
JustinD25 Oct 2011 @ 19:35
Oh man. So while I don't have a clue why the drivers, both the Uni ones and the official ASUS ones, both failed, and completely refused to work last night... this workaround did the trick for me:
http://maxedtech.com/driver-signature-error-possible-workaround/
Using a Xonar DX, I followed the steps and sure enough, the drivers installed a-ok, no digital signature issues, etc.
Wild.
CarvedInside26 Oct 2011 @ 09:40
Thank you for sharing the detailed info regarding what happened.
Its strange that for no reason the driver stopped being signed. Maybe the certificate expired or there is some sort of bug related to how the drivers where signed.
Which instructions you followed to make it work, it was my instructions in the page you linked or a specific comment from there?
DF228 Oct 2011 @ 08:19
OK first of all a big thanks to Caved for these drivers which I find have a better quality output with less noise when compared to the Asus driver. Installing this driver in Win 7 was problematic. I encountered two problems, the first being the driver installation would not complete and secondly after I got it to install Win 7 would not load it. The solution for the first problem was to run the installation file as an administrator. The second problem was solved by running this app http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=Files&go=giveme&dwn_id=826 . After running this also as an administrator choose the option to run Windows in test mode. This will override the driver signature enforcement and load the installed Unified Driver. If you have not installed the driver yet now you can do so. Dont forget to restart. Note a message would appear on the lower right corner of desktop informing you that Windows is running in test mode along with build info. If anyone has any better suggestions please share.
Jorge Alberto S&aacu29 Oct 2011 @ 19:08
I install the driver but nothing happens. No sound at all. I've Xonar DG and I use Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.
CarvedInside31 Oct 2011 @ 11:59
You can try and see if it works with the guide that DF2 posted.
When you uncheck silent installation what error do you get?
romul29 Oct 2011 @ 20:40
hello!
i want to say thank you for your work.I really apreciate it.
i really need your help though...
i have a very hard problem with recently released battlefield3 game.i have sound lag, sometimes repeat sound.that is in singleplayer part of the game and only in videos between levels.not in game.
and the most big problem is in multiplayer part.my game freezes with looping, bzzzzzz sound every time.there was no online game i could play.always crash with looping sound.
i know it is driver fault because if i uninstall audio driver game runs ok.this weird thing happens only with this game but it happens and i dont what to do.
i have clean fresh formated windows 7x32 updated, most resent drivers for all hardware and xonar d1.
im really disperated,i want to play this game so bad.maybe you can help me with that problem.
THANK YOU
AzureSky31 Oct 2011 @ 19:24
first, why are you using 32bit windows 7? that dosnt seem very logical with newer games that can make use of more ram then 32bit windows has to offer..... if its because the system only supports 32bit windows, then you got bigger problems then a sound card....
second, you may want to install the unixonar drivers without GX support, also setting a lower depth setting (rather then 192khz set it to 44 or 48) some games dont like higher settings.
you would likely get a much better gaming experience with windows 7 x64 and a proper amount of ram, Not only are the 64bit drivers better then the 32bit drivers these days, but games like bf3 really arent designed to be played to their fullest with 32bit operating systems.
also note: bf3 in its current state is a steaming pile of crap, go take a look at anandtech and their artical about how buggy the game is, so much so its almost unplayable online at this point.
CarvedInside07 Nov 2011 @ 10:56
Try installing Uni Xonar with Low DPC latency checked or C-Media Panel if you didn't.
BF3 has a lot of problems. I have read somewhere that you should set the sound mode to headphones, and this should fix some problems caused with the sound.

1) You might want to add to the notes that this fixes the infamous quiet microphone problem (just Google for "Asus quiet microphone" to see how common it is). The funny thing is that I bought my Essence STX when Windows 7 came out because the Creative drivers at the time didn't work with microphones on 64bit but since then Asus have broken their own drivers (I don't use my mic much, but somewhere between L4D and BF3 Asus broke it).
2) I had a real hard time getting these drivers to install. I have UAC on full (call me crazy but I consider it an equivalent to sudo and pointless on anything less) but even running as admin the installers for 1.41, 1.40 and 1.31 would not work. With silent mode off the progress bar would take a couple of minutes to get to 100% and then get stuck. So here's how I fixed it:
a) Turn UAC off.
b) Restart.
c) Install the Uni drivers. They will install in less than a second (I have an SSD so take that into account but whatever the case they install much faster). Perhaps the reason they take so long with UAC on is that something wants UAC permission but is timing out?
d) Turn UAC back on full.
e) Restart.
3) In case it matters I had no problems with driver signatures.
CarvedInside07 Nov 2011 @ 10:54
Thanks for this.
1)Regarding the quiet microphone, can you confirm that using 1794 Asus drivers the problem is still there?
2) This is interesting, will try to reproduce this with UAC at full. I previosly tried with it at Recommended and didn't had any problem. Any options you checked in the uni installer?
AzureSky08 Nov 2011 @ 20:08
Little note, UAC should only be run at full for systems in grave risk of infection or used for people who need to be kept from installing anything.
UAC is useful for people who need protecting from themselves but it causes alot of problems for people who know what they are doing, default UAC is what most programs and installers are designed to work with, most are never tested with full uac enabled because, honestly, most users dont even know how to change the UAC settings.
if your at that much risk on your own system, you probably should reconsider what your doing with your system, I have run with and without uac for many years and have yet to have uac save me from a virus/malware common sense wouldnt have, but I have had uac cause alot of headakes, like asking 5-6 times during a software suit if i want to let it install stuff....(later installers had a workaround for that but still...)
even with uac off, windows vista/7 arent as insecure as running as root on linux, mostly because you cant change system files without taking ownership and other fun little things like that(that make a geeks life a pain at times)
so yeah, I get what your saying and why you do it, but honestly, running uac maxed out is either very paranoid or a sign that you probably need to rethink what you do with your system.
Kyle09 Nov 2011 @ 08:38
@AzureSkiy, You seem to have some misunderstandings of what UAC is.
1) No program is designed for "default UAC". They are designed with UAC in mind full stop. If you are doing things properly you do not need to test for "full UAC".
2) And then what is "default" UAC? Vista and 7 have different defaults (and 7 is known for being so low by default it might as well be off).
3) For me UAC is not about protecting from viruses, it is about knowing what is being altered on my computer. If any piece of software is triggering 5-6 notices you should tell its author because so many notices is basically a deprecation warning and the program may not work at all on Windows 8 onwards (one of the Microsoft engineers once called UAC warnings a glorified deprecation warning system).
4) Windows may protect itself with UAC off but it does not protect other potentially critical dependencies such as Ruby, Python, or any of your software, etc. If you're a programmer you want to know any changes that are happening to them because all are potentially devastating entry points. Maybe if all you do is play games then you don't care about this.
5) It is kind of paranoid, but the intrusion of UAC is over stated. I only ever get notices when I'm installing stuff which is exactly when I do want to know what is being changed on my system. These unified drivers are the only time I've ever had to turn UAC off completely which is not a problem with UAC but a problem with the installer. If you blame UAC in these circumstances would you blame sudo on Linux?
6) I did actually used to run UAC on a lower setting until I realised how easy it was to alter Python modules on my system and with a bit more exploring I realised that UAC on anything less than full leaves open too many holes.
Kyle09 Nov 2011 @ 08:00
Yes the quiet microphone was there with the latest 1794 Asus drivers (I tried updating them first).
Joe02 Nov 2011 @ 22:40
Can your drivers be setup so the front line level output Dolby Headphone? When analog out is selected as 2 speakers, the Dolby Headphone option is gone. I would like to use my own headphone amplifier instead of the internal of the sound card.
CarvedInside07 Nov 2011 @ 10:40
Nope. Tried it but it didn't work.
bansta05 Nov 2011 @ 19:04
thank you for driver, solved my 2 channel switching problems, however my live tv in win 7 media centre is no longer 5.1 i ran set up again in media centre but no luck. any help greatly received.
CarvedInside07 Nov 2011 @ 10:42
Maybe your 5.1 was working before because of stereo upmix, if so try installing the drivers with Stereo upmix to 5.1 checked in the installer.
Bo08 Nov 2011 @ 17:58
I bought the Xonar D1 for my battlefield 3 game to enjoy real 5.1 sound via spidf out.
But after I downloaded the latest driver from asus, i got strange annoying reverbs in bf3.
Fortunately I found your side and downloaded your xonar driver.
Now everything works fine. Iam quite impressed. Thank you so much.
Jay17 Nov 2011 @ 15:11
I'm glad I'm not the only one who's experienced this odd reverb-like phenomenon with the Asus 1794's. I've always preferred the Uni drivers for their latency improvements and whatnot, but purely on a level of clarity of sound, stock Asus drivers were always at least workable. This was the first version however that was absolutely unusable for me. And I've tried them more than once, its definitely not a placebo effect.
Kojot09 Nov 2011 @ 00:55
Bf3 got problems with onboard soundcards and with PCI cards.I got DG tooo.... If you uninstall ASUS drivers and control panel of soundcard , then install just drivers , you will have no more problems with looping sound but game will still crash .....
Oliver09 Nov 2011 @ 13:10
Hi,
Thanks for these drivers 🙂
Just wondering, are you meant to install them over the top of the Asus drivers? or do these replace them completely?
CarvedInside09 Nov 2011 @ 15:32
They are meant to be replace Asus drivers completely.
andy15 Nov 2011 @ 16:30
@virus
will there be a new test of 2.0 or maybe a final?
CarvedInside20 Nov 2011 @ 14:33
Regarding the new installer. When I have more time I will resume the "complicated" discussions with Virus regarding this, and probably there will be a dedicated topic about this.
