Thanks for the update, and the work on this project (; .

I've updated from 1.41 to 1.50, and now Xonar Audio Center crashes with a Rundll32.exe error when I click on "Mixer". Card is a Xonar D2X, OS is Win7 x64 German. Is this a known problem, and how can I fix it?

      🙂

This shouldn't be a problem. Try a uninstalling and installing again, maybe use driver sweeper after installation.

CarvedInside, I'd rather not have the app crash on me though, if that's possible (; . Problem is the app only works after a reboot when it has crashed once. Is there anything I can do to narrow down/identify the source of the crash?

Sorry, what I meant is that the crash shouldn't happen. Usually this kind of things are resolved with a reinstall. Try uninstalling the drivers, restart, driver cleaning with driver sweeper and install 1.51 again.

Is it possible to somehow setup an auto bitrate and auto sample rate playback using ASIO? Right now (Xonar Essence ST with UNi Xonar v1.51, low latency version, win7 64bit) I have to adjust these two values manually everytime (to match correct settings with my music) =/ Thanks very much for any kind of help!

I think I read somewhere that it's already possible with official drivers!

While this feature isn't exactly documented by Asus/Cmedia, based on tests I made the auto sample works while using ASIO playback. Read more about it in FAQ and troubleshooting section paragraph 7.
Will work with any driver original or Uni Xonar.

So when I use ASIO, it doesn't matter what Sample rate and Bitrate is set in the Audio center (the soundcard's software)? It will just use values of the file I am playing?

        Reply

        • CarvedInside29 Jan 2012 @ 17:18

Yes, but thats only valid for Sample rate. Bitrate is a independent of ASIO or any other sound output. On the other hand Bit-depth has to be set in ASIO config but setting this to 24 bit won't affect in a negative way the quality of 16 bits.

Thanks very much for the info, very useful! Do you know about any software which is able to test if the autosample feature works properly (something like measuring the output characteristics)?

I am not sure if my files contain info about sample rate (as I use .wav, maybe not) so I want to be sure...

I don't know of any software. When I tested this I heared a minor pop/crack in the speakers when changing between files with different sample rate. Also check with DPC latency checked and the DPC Lat got higher when ASIO was playing higher sample rate files(96) than when playing 44.1 KHz files.
In the FAQ there is a picture with Foobars status bar, and there its exemplified how this looks when the audio file has information about sample rate in it.

    Hi again

Now I have things working well and not in test mode, thanks for the new Win7 64 update driver. Can I ask about the ASIO driver window. I use the normal install with the asus panel because I like the large silver effect volume knob, but was wondering why the ASIO driver option only goes down to 10ms and not 2ms when I used the 1.41 driver. I dont know too much in this area but would like to know why I only now see 10ms. I have the Xonar DX card and use the latest beta of JRiver media player.

    • CarvedInside31 Jan 2012 @ 12:54

Don't know why C-Media decided to remove anything below 10ms. In the installer there is an option to downgrade ASIO to 2.0.0.7 which is the one in 1.41 UNi drivers if you consider that you need a latency of 2 ms.

    2 Jonny http://illusiveartgames.blogspot.com/p/skin-for-a...

    Instruction for skin install:

    1) Terminate ASUS Audio Center process (press Exit in system tray icon).

    2) Next find the path
C:Program FilesASUS Xonar 'your audiocard model' AudioCustomAppProgram
    or (for UniXonar Drivers 1.51)
    C:Program FilesUNi Xonar AudioCustomapp

    3) Find and make backup of 'Skin' folder somewhere on your hard drive (just in case).

    4) Now copy 'Skin' folder from downloaded archive in C:Program FilesASUS Xonar Essence STX AudioCustomAppProgram
    or (for UniXonar Drivers 1.51)
    C:Program FilesUNi Xonar AudioCustomapp
(confirm the replacement of all files).

    5) This skin is made for XONAR ST and STX - if you have a different sound card (D1 for example) find path C:Program FilesUNi Xonar AudioCustomappSkinStatustitle
and delete 'D1.png'. Next rename 'ST.png' or 'STX.png' to 'D1.png' - from now our card is "better" *lol*

    6) Run the Audio Center (from Control Panel), the icon will appear in the tray.

    7) Open Audio Center main window.

    8) Enjoy. If you've done something wrong - you have a backup.

    Sorry for bad English...

      • VadimDee02 Feb 2012 @ 17:28

For your card, you must delete 'DX.png' (path C:...CustomappSkinStatustitle) then rename 'STX.png' in 'DX.png'

Make a screenshot - I'll see what you got

        • Jonny03 Feb 2012 @ 07:15

No screen shot sorry. It screws the whole panel up tho, no volume dial and the panels all out of whack and same for drop downs.

The custom skin folder has no DX.png to delete. My current default folder does though, but If I follow the instructions and just overwrite the entire skin folder with the custom skin folder. Renaming ST or STX to DX has no effect what so ever.

My Xonar ST is connected to a Tubemagic A1 via RCA, but for some reason the left and right channels are reversed on my headphones. Oddly, if I turn on voice cancellation on the Karaoke/Magic Voice [C-Media Control Panel] when doing the speaker test, it puts out the left channel on the correct side, but when I test the right channel it comes out both sides. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Nevermind, it appears that the amp unit itself is outputting sound in reverse. However, is it possible to switch sound channels software side, other than in certain programs?

      • CarvedInside03 Feb 2012 @ 16:12

I'm not sure about sound reverse, I will look if there is such a setting recognized in driver itself and let you know.
Edit: In the Analog output "box" , try setting headphone instead of 2 channels, and click on the hammer tool on the right. At least on WinXP the option to revert channels appears. Can't test it now in Win 7. C-Media Panel is slightly different depending on which Windows you have.

First of all, thanks for your job!

I have a question, if these are modded drivers, why can't we have in the sample rate combo "88.2Khz" or "176.4"? C-Media chip is capable of that because with ASIO it should stream to the DAC bitperfect (and I think it does it properly).
Is it a Windows limitation? Using WASAPI and foobar, 88.2 streams are not allowed, but in KS mode they are (but then I think they are SRC by sound card's driver to whatever is set on de sample rate combo in Xonar Panel).

    Thanks for your time

    • CarvedInside03 Feb 2012 @ 16:10

I honestly don't know if the cmedia chip is capable of 88.2 and 176.4 KHz or if the drivers allow this regardless of modding them. I suppose I can try to make a external switcher(application) that could change to these sample rates, but you'll have to test this. Send me an e-mail so when its done I could send you this switcher for testing.

Just checked the audio driver assembly code and the 88.2 and 176.4 KHz sample rates aren't there, while the usual ones are. So basically no mod that I can do will enable them. Sorry.

I am using Logitech Z906 with the card. At the moment I am using my Xaximus III Gene's onboard which is'nt great.

Not sure I understand if you ask which UNi Xonar driver is better or which one between UNi or Asus drivers is best all around. Given the circumstances you should install Uni Xonar (1.51 or 1.41) with Normal option in the installer, just until you familiarize yourself with the drivers and the card, after that maybe try installing with C-Media Panel in the installer.

Just as an advice , buy the card from somewhere where you can return it if you aren't satisfied with it.

Thank you for the reply. I have the card ordered already and I doubt I will be returning it because its bound to be better than the onboard sound. I have the Uni 1.51 drivers downloaded. But I saw an option to enable stereo upmix. The main reason I am buying the card is because the optical out on my motherboard soundcard does not support this feature. Does this upmix work with the optical out too?

        • CarvedInside06 Feb 2012 @ 13:47

I wasn't saying that you would return the card because of sound quality, but maybe you will notice that things don't work out as they should and how you expected. Believe me it happens.
Upmix is enabled by default in original drivers, but it doesn't work as it should, at least on Win7. Don't know how it does over optical.

From what it seems , there are 2 types of Win7 x64 "systems": those who need signature for driver files but not for .inf files (like your case & mine) and those who need need the signature to be valid for both (this means driver version in inf files has to be 1795)

Now are you referring to same thing or that it might be related to SP1 that some users have problems installing the drivers because of .inf files not being valid?

It's the same BAD solution that was used in 1.50 exp, just automated for people who can't do it manually.

It's completely unneeded here: I doubt we'll ever see public truly unsigned driver for our cards. Maybe only if someone starts binary patching it.

You go out of your way to bash Asus's software support, but your drivers are far from satisfactory. I'm already on my dozenth installation attempt and I am beginning to question why I even bother in the first place since your (normal installation) drivers provide no discernible difference. It's noble of you to try and provide additional software support, but you should really consider taking a heaping serving of humble pie when it comes to comparing your drivers to Asus.

Whoops, looks like another failed installation........

Don't mind telling me that you didn't managed to install them, but trying to twist the "asus" bashing with why I am doing is so far away from the truth. I am doing this on my own time, beside having a job of my own other than trying to fix something that isn't my responsibility to begin with (the drivers, not the installation issues).

Trying a dozen times to install the drivers won't actually solve the problem.Starting with 1.41 and 1.51 drivers the problem with the signature is fixed and drivers files are exactly how the Asus ones are..If you have a problem, then this is because of something messed up on your system.. And the only fix seems to be a clean Win7 , others have done this too and everything worked fine after that.

Nobody is forcing you to install my drivers.

See your "Rate Asus Driver Support Surveyr" in regards to my 'twisted' comment.

Obviously 'humble pie' isn't your flavor, it seems. Look, part of software support of this nature is universal compatibility, or at least striving to be--you can't sit there and say my setup is the problem, when just about everybody has their own individual configuration. When I go to install your software, I have to go down a laundry list of requirements in order to even hope of having it properly install; when I go to install Asus's software, well........ it actually installs and works!

So, really, who has the better support here? I held my tongue in my first post, but now I simply don't care anymore; either you or your drivers. I wish you luck in your endeavors, but I think it's time you picked up a new hobby.........

Sorry, but I don't have a answer to why its not working for you and others. There really shouldn't be any problems now . Curious enough there were some persons who had problems installing the original drivers but could install Uni Xonar.

Can you tell me if you have SP1 installed or not? And what about automatic updates? Have you tried with both 1.41 and 1.51 drivers ?

Besides the questions, here are the 1.41 driver files without the installer, can you try installing them through device manager and report back if they worked? If they work, try installing uni xonar 1.41 over without cleaning with Driver Sweeper. If you need guidance with the installation through device manager just ask.

Hi, thanks a lot for a fast response. I have been busy studying so I haven't tried this until just now. I had the newest drivers working with the F8-at-boot-method. I have SP1 installed, and before I wrote the post above I ran windows update to make sure I had all the latest updates. I booted the F8-method (thought test mode was active) and I installed the 1.41 drivers manually. By selecting choose from disk etc it prompted that the drivers were updated, I'm not sure it has used all the 'new' files though? Maybe you can tell from this screenshot: http://imgur.com/mtqIe

Anyhow, I did as you suggested and I installed the 1.41.exe and then disabled test mode and rebooted. I have the environment and drivers running now, 1.41 that is, without test mode or F8-boot-method.

Is this beneficial to you somehow or do you need something more from me? Could I somehow get 1.51 to work now or should be satisfied with 1.41 working? Are there any benefits of upgrading to 1.51?

Thanks a lot for your work!

          They where installed ok.
Just tested with 1.41 driver file because I consider it to be was safer for the info I needed.

Here you have 1.51 driver files without installer. Try install them the same way, and after that install the drivers with uni 1.51 installer(exe).
Benefits not so many, only if you have a specific problem and want to try them and see if they help out with that.

    Successfully installed 1.51!
    But not without multiple tries.

At first at the part that is supposed to take 60 seconds, it stopped there for a long time.
    Closed it via Task Manager.

Then I tried it with 'Run as Administrator' and uncheck silent.
Saw the Asus installer stuff and the Asus dialog with progress bar.
The progress bar slowly goes to the end then asks me to insert my audio card.
Noticed that the cmd prompt say that another process is running.
'End task' the installer and the 2 other Vista Driver Installer processes.
At this point the driver seems to be installed as shown in Device Manager.

In the end I went to safe mode, ran Driver Sweeper again.
Then 'Run as Administrator' and uncheck silent for the installer.
Then everything went quick, installs in a zip.

Maybe I should have just run the installer with 'Run as Administrator' on my first try?
But anyway it installed fine in the end.

    Thanks for the release.

I always seem to have problems installing the drivers on my Xonar DG, at least as far as the last few versions go, on my Win7 x64 machine.

It forever hangs at "Installing drivers... (this shouldn't take more than a minute)". According to Task Manager, the NT kernel is at 100% of one of my cores, and eventually the installer says "Plug in your Xonar device". If I reboot the computer at this point, the drivers are actually installed (without control panel), and after a second attempt and end-tasking the driver installer, the control panel installs and everything is fine.

Not related to installation bugs, does the sound work (if using analog output) after you managed to install the UNi drivers, or you have to change some settings?
