Greetings, just got my Xonar DS, I researched like hell before i bought it and made my way here. A lot of people told me to use this drivers instead of the ASUS drivers. What does this drivers do? What is their advantage over the ASUS ones? Youre probably going to tell me to read the descriptions, and yeah, i read all of them, and didnt understood one bit about it. (Im very sorry for my lack of knowledge, I'm just a newbie trying to get into the Audio world) Just a summary would do. I'd really appreciate the reply. Thanks.
CarvedInside04 Jun 2012 @ 12:27
Ok. You get to install newer audio driver files(called 1794, 1796, 1800) that aren't available yet (or ever) for your card. This is mostly good if have problems now (with application and games) and there could be a possibility that the newer audio driver fixes some of them.
And if you have a 5.1+ system / headphones you get a normal experience and sounds aren't modified by default, with uni xonar you won't hear the sound coming from rear speakers with a 10 ms delay like you do with original drivers.
The bottom line is that if you don't have any problems with your card/drivers, and are using a 2.0 system or speakers there is no need to install the UNi Xonar drivers.
Bryan04 Jun 2012 @ 06:24
FYI I think there's an issue with the driver. I use the SPIDF input of my D2X which is connected to a PS3. I then route the sound through my PC using the sound device's audio in and "Listen" function. After I installed the Uni driver, I can still hear the audio but there are clicks and drop outs every few seconds. Reverted to the original driver and the problem went away.
CarvedInside04 Jun 2012 @ 12:16
It could be an issue with the latest drivers 1800 1.6x. Thank you for your feedback.
If original drivers work, then 1.41 UNi xonar drivers should work as well because they use the same audio driver files (1794).
Andre04 Jun 2012 @ 22:27
I have my Asus Xonar DX since today. I have installed your driver directly, but I have problems during games... sound and game hang several times for a few moments and it is nearly unable to play. Version 1.41 works better but even not perfect, 1.61 is terrible. Normal music playback is great without the hangs. What can it be?
CarvedInside05 Jun 2012 @ 06:11
If you enabled GX turn it off. Try setting Audio quality option to medium in games. Maybe its DPC latency thats high, read this article for more info. Or maybe there is incompatibility with other programs/drivers that you have installed. Regardless of the driver, games should work fine for the most part.
In case your wondering, the problems you are having will be there with Asus drivers as well.
Andre05 Jun 2012 @ 14:00
I have test a little bit. My latency is ok nearly all the time, but I have somtimes a red bar in the table, looks like a peak. Turning HPET off did not make it better. Even jumping wihtin music titles does a small "crack".
My next step was installing the original driver from asus. No "crack" with jumping in music titles, but I still have to test gameplay and more.
hunterz005 Jun 2012 @ 20:28
You probably enabled GX (or the C-Media equivalent that I can't remember the name of). That is only, only, only meant to be used for games released before Windows Vista that have EAX support. It will cause newer games to have the problems you describe, as they are meant to instead work fine with the native Windows Vista/7 audio stack.
Andre06 Jun 2012 @ 00:00
My results: the original Asus driver have the same problems.
GX is not enabled! I get the problems if there is at the same time network traffic access. I play music and if I start a download the music is hanging. My network drivers are the latest. Perhaps I am stupid but my old Creative Audigy 2 did not have that problems. There were problems with the drivers, sometimes I had to reinstall the drivers, that's why I changed to a new sound card but the current problems are more terrible. If there is no solution I will throw my new Asus sound crap away and will look after a new one. Please correct me, but the drivers from Asus or the modified one from you (with due respect) are even not better than the Creative one. It cannot be that I have to deactivate several normal BIOS functions in order to get a sound card running.
So if nobody has an idea my Asus Xonar DX is going back tomorrow and my Audigy 2 will be live again. The sound of the Asus card is really better, but only if you are sitting in front of your computer while doing nothing. Then I love to choose my old and worse card with less driver problems.
Sorry for my english, but I am not a native speaker.
hunterz006 Jun 2012 @ 00:35
Andre, that does sound very frustrating. It reminds me of a similar experience that I had when I first purchased my Xonar DX: in an Asus motherboard (A8N-SLI Deluxe I think), it somehow conflicted with the secondary on-board SATA controller. I had to disable to the controller to allow the Xonar to work, or remove the Xonar to allow the controller to work. As the irony of two Asus products conflicting with each other did not escape me, I couldn't resist contacting the company about my issue; of course, they claimed to be unable to replicate it.
You might try checking for a BIOS update for your motherboard. Otherwise it is indeed likely that the DX is just not compatible with your motherboard's LAN chipset.
Andre06 Jun 2012 @ 01:38
Thanks for your hints, I have a Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 and my NIC is a Linksys WMP600N (WLAN). I have the latest BIOS firmware and drivers...
Still cannot believe that there should be a hardware conflict... for me the drivers must be guilty
CarvedInside06 Jun 2012 @ 11:34
Mentioning red bars in DPC latency checker and you getting the problems while you have network traffic it points out more to DPC Latency. If this is the case, you can try Cmedia panel as it lowers DPC latency made by the card, but there is might be another factor involved.
We do our best to help others but Xonar cards have a lot of issues and some of them are impossible to fix or get by through workarounds.
Its not normal for one to be put through so many bumps and all that especially without any help from the company behind the product (in this case Asus), and you knowing that the Creative card works fine, I think its better to go back to it.
MasterFaster05 Jun 2012 @ 06:48
For now, I'm using the HT OMEGA CLARO II driver build 1795 (which is digitally signed for the Xonar cards, if you provide it with the correct inf - the same inf with the build 1796 driver of X- Meridian 2G). I can say that there are no differences between build 1794 (from ASUS Xonar DX), 1795 (from HT OMEGA CLARO II), 1796 (from Auzentech X- Meridian 2G) drivers for my Xonar DX card. I'm not using build 1800 anymore, though I didn't have any problems with it either.

How can I enable 5.1 sound in browsers? I only hear sound in left and right speaker when I watch or listen something on youtube for eg in Chrome/IE.
I have Xonar D1 and Unified Drivers 1.61. Also, there is no Enhancements TAB in Speakers configuration to enable Speaker Fill.
Thank you!
CarvedInside05 Jun 2012 @ 20:43
Check paragraph 4 in Faq section.
hunterz005 Jun 2012 @ 21:49
Browsers only output stereo sound. I usually enable Dolby Pro-Logic II on my speakers when watching Youtube videos, but you can achieve a similar effect in the Asus/C-Media control panel by setting input channels to 2, output channels to 5.1 and then choose Dolby Pro-Logic II decoding. Just remember to set it back to 6 input and 5.1 output for gaming.
Caracal06 Jun 2012 @ 19:11
Not working. I have Audio Channel - 2 Channels. Analog Out 5.1 Speakers in Audio Center. Even with Dolby Pro-Logic II, I get no sound in center and rear speakers. It's working in Winamp and games (2/6 Channels on Audio Channel setting). It's not working with WMP either -movies-, but is working with BS.Player...
CarvedInside06 Jun 2012 @ 19:48
Did you check stereo upmix in driver installer?Check it. I might be wrong but try choosing 6 channels and 5.1 speakers and Dolby Pro Logic II.
hunterz006 Jun 2012 @ 21:50
ProLogic II is only an option when input channels is set to 2.
Note that you will only hear things in the rear/surround speakers if there is Dolby ProLogic encoding in the audio that you are playing. You should hear stuff on the center speaker, though, if it is in the middle of the stereo field; if this is not happening then something is terribly wrong.
Caracal06 Jun 2012 @ 23:04
Yes, I have checked the stereo upmix when installed and yes, I enabled ProLogic II when it was set to two channels (it's not there on 6 channels). I was testing stuffs with the center (right and left muted), but there was no sound at all, no mather what setup...
One more thing: I get sound in subwoofer if I have sound in right and left. If I mute FL/FR, then I get no sound in woofer, either.
Also, when 2 channels setup, that EQ graffic it's not moving.
I get sound in all of the speakers if I set the effect "room", but I don't like how it sounds ๐
Thank you all for replies!
hunterz007 Jun 2012 @ 07:29
Hmm, you're right. I can't seem to get the ProLogic II decoding to work right for Youtube videos either - either in music or movie mode. My speakers' built-in decoder seems to work a lot better.
Caracal07 Jun 2012 @ 17:05
So, there is nothing I can do, right? :-s
hunterz007 Jun 2012 @ 19:14
Maybe try reinstalling without stereo upmix selected? It could be a broken implementation that is overriding the ProLogic decoder.
MasterFaster06 Jun 2012 @ 06:20
The Xonar Audio Center tells you what to do (if you click on ?)

Hi, I like your driver and I works very fine. I use the Xonar DG.
But, I have a small problem..(which I had with normal asus driver too^^). I have sometimes a problem with my soundcard (driver?). For example a game still "freeze" but I can listen the music/sounds in the background in short repetitions. If kill the progress with my Taskmanager, the sounds in the background are still active and the repetitions are cutted an will be "faster". I have not this problem with my Onboard soundcard... So I think there is something wrong with my Card/Driver ?^^
CarvedInside07 Jun 2012 @ 14:45
Make sure you have GX turned off. Does this happen with all the games or specific ones? Try setting the in-game audio quality to medium if there is such an option. Might be something wrong with the card or card and your system ( OS or hardware/motherboard), maybe check you card in another system.
kripke07 Jun 2012 @ 15:02
Games like TrackmaniaUnitedForever and Teamfortress 2 for example.
GX is off now, I will change some settings in these game too. If I get a freeze today again, I will tell it ๐
Roth08 Jun 2012 @ 10:34
Downloaded the latest uni drivers 1.61 and chose the low DPC option which cured the stuttering I had with Battlefield 3 and other games, many thanks for these drivers,I thought I had a hardware problem,it was the poor outdated drivers from Asus,I can now play games smooth,my card is the Xonar DS with an LM4562NA OP amp chip fitted.
CarvedInside08 Jun 2012 @ 20:26
Thx for sharing. ๐
MegamanZen08 Jun 2012 @ 19:30
How might I be able to get stereo mix to work using the UNi Xonar Audio interface to record the sound that is coming out of my speaker? I have already tried setting the default to Stereo Mix and it doesn't seem to work? I have tried setting the input to stereo mix in programs like Skype to see if there's any volume or noise coming from it but it doesn't seem to work.
CarvedInside08 Jun 2012 @ 20:25
Anyway try with different drivers, maybe there is a bug with the driver version you are using. Or it might have to do with output volume, because recording volume is much lower with Xonar cards than with other cards, and if the output volume isn't that loud, you might not hear anything.
Except for this, don't know why Stereo Mix wouldn't work or another way to record output sound. Maybe someone here has an idea.
MegamanZen08 Jun 2012 @ 20:46
Ah, I tried updating the drivers and it seems to have fixed it. I don't remember why I didn't decide to update it first. Thanks for the help.
Caracal09 Jun 2012 @ 15:11
How can I set my back speakers as rears? They are seen as sides..
hunterz009 Jun 2012 @ 18:16
If you're using 5.1, set input and output channels to 6 instead of 8.
hunterz009 Jun 2012 @ 18:17
Also, according to Dolby, the "rear" speakers on 5.1 are supposed to go just slightly back from being on the sides.
Caracal09 Jun 2012 @ 19:33
Yes, I have Logitech X-530 5.1 system and 6 channels output, Xonar D1 sound card. The rear speakers are seen as LS and RS (surround).
If this is normal, I'll let them how they are ๐ I will search for a 5.1 sound sample to test the effect, but in DotA 2 (the only game I play), the volume in rear speakers is very low and fades on the sound from center/right/left.
Thank you again!
hunterz010 Jun 2012 @ 18:17
I have Logitech Z-5500d. As long as you see only 5.1 speakers in your sound settings, then the depicted placements are correct.
Do your speakers have an adjustment for the rear/surround speakers? I have to turn mine up a bit as well, as I have always found them to be a bit too quiet compared to the front speakers. Having them arranged per Dolby instructions helps a bit, though: http://www.dolby.com/us/en/consumer/setup/connect...
Caracal11 Jun 2012 @ 21:43
Neah, I can't adjust them. It's a simple system with master volume on front right speaker and bass adjustment on subwoofer ๐
Maybe the problem here is that the front speakers are on my desk (so close to me) and rear speakers are on the back wall of the room (aprox 1.5 m from me so a bit far). I'll think a new positioning method ๐
Thanks for the link.
Caracal13 Jun 2012 @ 23:43
I managed to get 5.1 sound in WMP and MPC-HC. Winamp already had it, but still no 5.1 for browsers (youtube).
I modified some settings in audio codecs (AC3 filter and FFDShow) - 5.1 setup. With BS.Player I get the sound in all speakers, but there is no 5.1 effect (like sounds only in rear speakers). The sound is equal in the speakers.
TNT10 Jun 2012 @ 05:07
Hi, Ive been using v1.61 with Xonar DS and I am very happy with it. ๐ Ive got a small problem though. While listening to music for a while, the right speaker does not work. I tried to output the sound only in the right side and there is a still sound coming from it but is very low and hardly noticeable. Though I already fixed the problem through replugging the 3.5mm jack from the Xonar DS, sometimes it happens more frequently and is very irritating. I know its not the headphones or the speakers since it happens to both of them. Is this a problem with the drivers or is it a faulty wiring/hardware defect? Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, my setup is Xonar DS > Receiver >Headphone/Speaker.
CarvedInside10 Jun 2012 @ 12:54
Its likely that this is a hardware problem, might be your card or it might be a compatibility issue between your motherboard and your card. If you can try your Xonar DS in another PC to see if this is still happening. If its working, then maybe a replacement card would work for your main system, if not probably the replacement won't work. The chances of this helping with this problem are slim but you might also want to check and see if you have the latest BIOS on the motherboard, and update it if its not.
I've encountered this a few time in the past but sadly I don't know how the owners resolved it. If you decide to investigate, please share what did and what did not work.
TNT11 Jun 2012 @ 07:41
I'll try my Xonar DS to my friend's PC as soon as i can. My motherboard's drivers are up to date and im using windows 7 32-bit. I'll be posting my updates here after doing some research and experiments.
Oh btw, I noticed that simply replugging the jack to the Xonar DS doesnt fix the problem. With my headphones on, I touch the tip of the jack with my hand and I hear a buzzing sound only on my left headphones. I just touch the tip of the jack until I hear the the buzzing sound on both sides. That is the time i plug it again to the Xonar DS. I dont know it these really helps or is the buzzing sound just playing with my imagination LOL. Just sharing. ๐
Fernando10 Jun 2012 @ 22:42
I'm using 1.61 from a fresh (update) Win7 x64 install. This version has a bug, I cannot setup analog output to speakers (it continues to sound on headphone, but SUPER LOUD). So it keeps on headphone output forever now. ๐
Forgot to say, my card is a STX.
Also, before 1.61 it worked perfectly fine!
1794 Asus Audio Center won’t resolve a thing. Going back to 1.53. sigh
MasterFaster11 Jun 2012 @ 08:19
That's a known bug, please go back.
Tylan11 Jun 2012 @ 08:48
Hey,
When I had a SoundBlaster card, I was able to use two applications at the same time. One using the Asio driver for the music app, and the other; a file browser to preview the audio files. It works, but it switches the audio between the apps...meaning I can't play a track in the program...while browsing for files and listening in the other without one stopping.
CarvedInside11 Jun 2012 @ 15:37
This is not possible for current implementation of ASIO for Xonar cards and there is no fix. You might want to check ASIO4All.
theswordpriest11 Jun 2012 @ 12:30
First of all thank you for your great work and immense attention for our benefit.
I installed your driver over my original Asus driver but the Xonar system tray disappeared and in the control panel when I press the Xonar unified icon nothing happen.
I have uninstalled every driver and software associated with my Xonar card and installed yours only but the same thing happened, no xonar audio panel and no response when I press the unified xonar icon from the control panel.
I own Xonar HDAV 1.3 delux and my O.S. is Win7 x64, please reply to me ASAP.
Thank you.
CarvedInside11 Jun 2012 @ 15:41
Does the sound work? What options did you select, if any?
Try installing 1.41 drivers or 1.53.
theswordpriest11 Jun 2012 @ 16:53
I actually used driver sweepr and registery cleaner then installed your 1.61 driver using Normal and re-enabled stereo remix, then it worked.
Thank you again.

Anyone managed to make Dolby Home Theater v4 it comes with Xonar Phoebus to work with ST/STX ?
Gradius11 Jun 2012 @ 22:38
It stopped working (Dolby Home Theater v4) on driver v1.53 and up. I miss it 'cause was much better than SRS alternative.
