Are you referring to 1.80a drivers or UNi Xonar driver in general? Can you tell your OS and which is the driver version with which you had crackling noises? Thanks.

great drivers , but im noticing that i need more volume than before and on shutdown i clearly hear a craking noise and it may be me but im play a lot of dirt rally and notice that the sounds of the car etc is now less pronounced (i had the UNi Xonar 1816/1822 v1.75a r2 on a windows 8.1 x64 cmedia panel, now clean install of windows 10 x64 and latest 1.80 with cmedia panel)

I seem to have lost the ASIO capability after installing 1.80a. Now WASAPI on J-River gets disturbed whenever I run another app with audio (VLC, Youtube on Chrome). Can someone please explain ? This worked fine when I was using 1.75a r2.

You are saying that ASIO playback does not work anymore and WASAPI (exclusive?) playback gets interrupted? Which OS do you have? Which audio card?
Try reinstalling the drivers and restarting the OS after that.

There is one other report that WASAPI exclusive is interrupted. I for one don't have any problem with it.

        Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Let me clarify the issue a bit more this time.

1 > I currently use 1.75a r2. (I had to revert back to this after failing the 1.80a driver). OS Windows 7 Ultimate
2 > Sound Card is ASUS Xonar Essense ST PCI
        3 > Jriver 20.0.27 Media Center

I'm not a fan of WASAPI because I believe that it sounds a bit darker than the ASIO to my ears. Therefore I use the "ASUS Xonar ASIO Driver" in the output section of the media center. This option appeared as soon as I installed 1.75a r2. When I install the 1.80a driver the ASIO option disappears and I'm only left with WASAPI. When I select WASAPI, it gets disturbed and stops the output whenver there's another system sound. (Skype, youtube, vlc media player etc.)

I would like to know how to get the ASIO output option back with the 1.80a drivers.

        Thank you

        Cheers ๐Ÿ™‚

Have you tried installing 1.80a drivers again and restarting the PC? I've checked with an older copy of J River Media Player 17 and ASIO playback works with 1.80a drivers.
After the reinstall and restart if ASIO still does not show up, try and see if it show in foobar2000.

            Hi,

I tried a Clean installation of 1.80a r2 and it worked. (Uninstalled 1.75a r2 first and restarted without trying to update directly from 1.75a r2 to 1.80a r2)

            Thank you very much ๐Ÿ™‚

I am getting really bad "Highest reported hard pagefault resolution time" in LatencyMon. C-Media Audio WDM Driver (this driver) aka cmudaxp.sys is taking up a high "highest execution" and "total execution" on the drivers tab. I have the Xonar DSX on windows 10. I disabled on board audio and it is still happening.

How did you manage to make the 1823 driver for the DGX if ASUS didn't release the official one yet? Are there certain compatibility issues that'll be fixed once ASUS releases the official one?

I've already explained this to you. If ASUS would actually care for supporting their products and release their 1823 drivers pack for Xonar DGX it will be exactly the same as those in the 1823 STX driver pack.

Wow, I've always thought that there had to be at least some differences between the STX and the DGX driver. This really makes it hard for me to understand why ASUS are being such jerks about their drivers. Maybe it's time for an upgrade to a DAC/Amp then.

Without the UNI Xonar drivers me and I'm sure a lot of other people would have given up entirely on the Xonar sounds cards a long time ago so Asus should be very thankful to you. In an utopia there would be UNI Xonar drivers for the Phoebus too.. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Did you have these noises (for me they happen roughly every 30 minutes, so far only with optical audio, testing coaxial digital currently) with pre-1.80 drivers too? I had them with all drivers (1.72, 1.75, 1.80 and some earlier official ones) on Win 10 x64, but never on Win 7 or 8.1.

Thank you for these drivers ๐Ÿ™‚

I only have a D1, but I installed these drivers anyway to get good stereo upmixing support.

I have some questions though. When I uninstalled the official drivers from Asus, stuff was left behind. Like "hsmgr.exe" stuff getting loaded at boot time. I deleted that by hand before running the UNi Xonar installer. I have no idea what else is getting left behind.

Is there a way to properly remove all previous driver files from Asus?

Also, another question I have, are the Dolby DSP effects newer in these drivers? (Like Dolby Headphone.)

Thanks again for the drivers ๐Ÿ™‚

If you install the drivers with "Run driver cleaning" option then you don't have to worry about leftovers from Asus drivers.
I don't know if Dolby DSP effects where updated in these newer audio drivers. I haven't changed anything regarding these effects.

Hi! Great work with UNi Xonar drivers so far!

I've been having some issues with the Drivers for my D2X after i upgraded from 8.1 to 10 x64 (pro if that matters):

So every time i start a game called "Infestation: Survivor Stories" or "WarZ" as it was called earlier i get a really loud crackling noise EVERY time i start the game ๐Ÿ™
I used 1.75 earlier and i had the issue then aswell, i then upgraded to 1.80 hoping that it would fix my issues and sadly it didn't ๐Ÿ™

Is there anything you can do to fix this issue?

Xonar D2X > Default setting when installing (I don't touch it)

If you need any more info please let me know! ๐Ÿ™‚

Try installing the drivers with Low DPC Latency configuration if you haven't. You could also try 1.75b drivers and see how these perform.
I am afraid there nothing I can do.
Besides a driver issue, this could be a game or Windows issue. FYI there are some fixes for audio in Windows 10 10547 preview build.

I've tried Low DPC Latency configuration and 1.75b without any luck :/

I figure it's a Windows 10 issue with those games, but it's just weird since i've hear about other people with this problem and it's an issue with ASUS Soundcards with some games in Windows 10. I've seen that there has been a lot of audio fixes for Windows 10, but none of them has fixed said issues on the full release of the OS.

Thanks for all the help so far! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Just installed the new v1.80a driver on my Xonar D2X under Windows 10 64bit. There are a couple of problems I'd like to report. First the installer detected my audio card as a D2 not a D2X (changed it back accordingly) and secondly, any time I try and open the Mixer tab in the C-Media Panel the program crashes and I am given the error "Windows host process (Rundll32) has stopped working". Once the error has occurred, I can no longer open the C-Media Panel until I reboot.

Thanks for all the hard work!

I've looked at the card detection issue and I didn't find any problem. Can you please tell me the card Hardware ID from Device Mananger->Asus Xonar D2X->Details pane->under Property select Hardware Ids. There you can copy the first entry.
Also can you run the installer again (without installing) and recheck if it still detected as D2 card. Thank you.

Odd, every reference to its name says "D2" not "D2X" although if the box it came it is to be trusted it is a D2X. Bought it new as well. Installer still says D2.

According to the Hardware ID it's a D2 card. There is this possibility that it is a D2X with the D2 hardware ID. To know for sure which card do you have, look at the slot connection if it's PCI-e then it's a D2X. If it's PCI then it is a D2 card. If you are not familiar with these, you can google for images on how D2 and D2X look like.

It is definitely PCI-e, that's one of the main reasons I got that particular card. Don't even think my current motherboard has PCI slots. Just PCI-e.

I think this is what happened:
The card was used before it was sold to you, as some point the EEPROM (where the Hardware ID is stored) was corrupted and required for the shop service or ASUS service to restore it. They restored it to D2 by mistake. If you wish to restore the Hardware ID to that of a D2X card you can look here. I don't know if it matters if you let it be as it is, it's up to you if it's worth the trouble.

Interesting. Don't think that would be anything to do with the C-Media crash so its not that important. Probably will go ahead and change it anyway though. Thanks for the help.

I've just checked the C-Media crash and I can't replicate it. Maybe it does have something to the with the fact that your card has the wrong Hardware ID or maybe with the fact that you've selected D2X in the installer while the installed card is detected as D2.

If you do the EEPROM restore, I suggest you reinstall the drivers. If don't do the EEPROM restore I still suggest you reinstall the drivers but this time with Xonar D2 selected. Either way let me know if you still get the C-media crash.

Replaced the EEPROM with the D2X version and the mixer tab now doesn't crash! Odd how having the wrong EEPROM was never a problem with earlier versions of the UNi drivers.

I've installed 1.80b for my STX II 7.1 under Windows 10 64bit. The driver is working fine. The only thing it noticed is that I selected the normal Installation with the Asus Audio Center, but instead I have a "Oxygen HD Audio STX II Configuration" in my tray. It's no big deal, as I control mostly everything with the XonarSwitch anyway. Just wanted to give you some feedback.

Hey, short question. Is the โ€œoccasional audio stutterโ€ issue that exists at least for me with Win10 + Xonar DG, regardless of driver, just the way it is now until Windows / Asus release new updates / drivers, or is there some way to fix this?

    Reply

    • CarvedInside25 Sep 2015 @ 16:24

Tough question. You've mentioned in one of you previous comments that for a while 1.72 driver worked fine. Maybe these stutters are a result of a particular setting you've set after a while?
Do you get these stutters with your onboard card as well? Could be that the problem is from something else, like a hard drive with errors or that's failing or because something is causing high DPC latency. For hard drive, do scandisk on all the drivers and check SMART data for errors. For DPC latency you could install the drivers with Low DPC Latency and avoid Asus Audio Center for changing settings and you could read and apply the advices in Part II of the The case of DPC Latency article. Unfortunately there isn't a reliable way to measure DPC latency on Win10, the LatencyMon tool isn't that good, for example is says that my system has problems playing audio/video in real-time but my system is working perfectly fine.

I wrote that 1.72 worked fine after about 20 minutes of having installed them. I got stutters 10 minutes after that, and roughly every 30 minutes with every driver version Iโ€™ve used so far.
Thanks for the hints, I do in fact have an HDD with bad sectors. Iโ€™ll try the low DPC install and if that doesnโ€™t help Iโ€™ll remove the bad sectors HDD from my system. It would still be strange since I had the same HDD with already bad sectors on Win7 and 8.1 and never had stutter issues.

I installed low DPC version like half a year ago and back then I couldnโ€™t find a way to enable digital / optical output (since thatโ€™s disabled by default and can be enabled in Asus / CMedia panels). Is there a way to do this now?

        • CarvedInside25 Sep 2015 @ 17:50

Low DPC Latency does allow you to launch Asus or Cmedia Panel and from there you can enable digital output. But launching Asus Audio Center will increase DPC latency until restart, so either you use C-Media Panel or XonarSwitch to enable digital output or use Asus Audio Center and restart after that. You should read the "Features comparison table" and its the associated notes in UNi Xonar features page.
