Is there a way to increase the volume of the Line-In input beyond what Windows provides? Using a Xonar DX

I have every volume setting related to line-in set to 100%, and it's still twice as soft as my onboard Realtek soundcard

I just wanted for all of you to know that the i installed Unixonar 1821 1.71 for Asus Xonar ST on windows 2012 server and is working..The only BIG difference from usual windows 7 or 8 is that you must activate the Windows Audio service mannually.
    Step by step:
    1. So imeadiately after the Unixonar driver installs it's "toys" aka files the machine is rebooted.
    2. After reboot you will still see the speaker near the clock with an "X" on it
    3. double click on it or right click and select "playback devices"
    4. Windows will ask you if you want to activate the "Windows audio service" and of course you want that and you select yes and that's it...

    Good luck...

You can try enabling 7.1 virtual speaker shifter and then using the plus to 'move' the virtual speakers closer.

Launch Asus Audio Center, go to Mixer and raise Left and Right sliders. Other than this, there is no other way.

    1. Randomly after a reboot, I experience a drop in the sound level of a channel (front right from now), how to manage with this? I've got a drop (at about half the expected volume), it's not totally muted.
I've read it's because of a bug of HsMgr, but reinstalling your Unified Drivers didn't seem to change a thing.

    2. Do you plan to implement a way to accurately adjust equalizer settings ? (or does a text file or a register key exist to that purpose?)

Keep up the good work, thank you.

      1) Which card and OS do you have?
I don't think it's related to HsMgr, might be if you have GX option ON. You can install uni xonar drivers with Low DPC latency panel option, this way hsmgr is completely disabled.
      2) I'm not sure what do you mean. Please explain.

Hello. I have Xonar Essence ST. I often alternate analog outputs between Headphone and 2 Speakers. The only known to me way to do that is using Asus control panel (Ausus Essence ST Audio Center).Too many clicks for simple task so it gets annoying with time. I wish there would be small command line utility to switch analog outputs, then I could assign it to any hotkey using such tool as AutoHotkey for example. I know about Front Panel switch utility which in principal is close to what I need. I thought maybe I could modify it so I looked at the source code but it's too low level and I understand little of it. Is there any chance some good will people implement such a feature?

It's a issue with the option list and it won't affect the driver installation. The error is tagged as Win7x32, and from the elements in the picture that is Windows 7, please clarify. Please post the contents of the installsettings.ini.
      Thanks for mentioning this.

I just ordered the ASUS Xonar DG with my Audio Technica AD700's any comments on the headphones/soundcard? I was wondering is there any good setups or tunes I should do to further improve my audio? I am very new to all this and came across your UNI drivers and have read really good feedback on them. Is there anything I need to do specifically? I am running on Windows 8 Pro 64bit. Please and thankyou for the reply.

Quick heads-up to everyone: do not use the SPDIF out of the Xonar cards. I decided to migrate to an external soundcard that connects using optical and for nearly 4 months I've had a lot of crashing/BSOD. It stopped once I switched to onboard output, it seems it's a defect in the hardware. I had the DS, but from what I've seen it affects nearly every cards, drivers didn't change anything.

Very little to do, reduce system volume to 75%, change the amp to one of the two higher settings depending on your preference, consider using the software addon for Dolby Theater to tailor your sound even more and don't be afraid of the equalizer in your control panel.

That said, you could just install, plug in, change amp setting and enjoy and still notice a difference from on-board sound ;3.

I have an Xonar DX card on Windows 7 64bit and am using the spdif output into a 7.1 receiver. Windows is set to 7.1 speakers and the Xonar card is set to Dolby output. I am having trouble with the surround sound on the rear speakers. When I run the test from the Windows playback devices that is supposed to send a sound to each speaker one at a time:
    1. Whenever either of the back speakers is supposed to play, they both play the sound. this is not too bad since I think they both always get the same sound anyway.
    2. BUT, whenever one of the rear channel speakers is supposed to play, the side channel speaker also plays. When the left rear speaker is supposed to play, the left side speaker also plays. When the right rear speaker is supposed to play, the right side speaker also plays. This does not seem right at all.

I have tried playing with all the settings and the different decoder settings on the receiver.

Any ideas? Is the DX too old of a design for true 7.1 through the spdif?

PS: Thank you for a driver that actually make the Xonar card work. I thought I just threw my money away after fighting with the official drivers. The card did work fine with spdif and a 5.1 setup but I really want to upgrade to 7.1 since I have the receiver and speakers now for my TV setup. Blu-Rays sound really awesome now. I do not think I will buy anything ASUS again.

It's not normal behavior. You might want to try to install the (PLX) firmware update for your card. This is usually for cards manufactured 2 years or more ago. It fixes more things than those in the log. For downloads and instructions go to Asus download page, select Windows XP, and go to Utilities, and download PLX fireware update Ver 1.1. It works on Win7 regardless that you selected WinXP.
Let me know if this helped.

Thanks for the help. I applied the patch you linked but it did not solve the problem. I do see a new Dolby Pro Logic IIx for two channels, so it did update the card. I am thinking that the DX will only do 7.1 using the analog outputs. The picture in the control panel only shows 5.1 when you have Dolby Digital live selected. It does show 7.1 when you select analog out. Blu-Rays show DTS as the format for 7.1 audio, so maybe Dolby does not support past 5.1? Or, mayvbe I just have a bad card.

I am giving up on the Xonar card and removing it. My video card can do all the latest formats and the 7.1 does work OK through it. The downside is that I have to run an HDMI cable to the receiver then another HDMI cable back to my monitor. I am also getting some annoying little clicks and pops from some crosstalk? somewhere, whenever windows does a system sound like clicking on files. I am looking for an HDMI to optical split out/adapter, so I can go back to just running an optical cable to the receiver.

Sorry for posting below. I thought sure I did hit the reply button to the right of your name.
Update: Through some further searching, it seems that optical audio IS limited to 5.1. You must use HDMI to get to 7.1. So an optical split out/converter from HDMi to optical will also not work.

DDL supports only 5.1, this is stated in the Xonar manual. Use SPDIF PCM, I think it should work with 7.1 speakers, or better yet, use Analog connections as you will (most likely) get better sound quality. The patch was for the issues you've described with the speaker sound coming but I didn't taken in the account that you where using 7.1 speakers with DDL 5.1 output.
