My card would work for a moment, and then I load PUBG and bam, it's soft as hell, and some frequencies are too soft. All sound sounds muffled. But then windows sounds come through loud. But all audio is messed up. (Videos, audio, etc).

Now doesn't matter what driver or how many restarts, still screwed. Think it's time to plug my Essence STX into another PC and see if the card died, or if it's Win 10 1709.

FYI Everyone with the sound resetting issue on FCU windows 10. The issue has been fixed with insiders build 1709 build 1704 and on. I have verified it.

Thank you for the information. I think you meant Window 10 version 1803 insiders build 17040 or 17004. Please clarify the exact build number.
Btw Until now I made the confusion of calling Windows 10 versions as build numbers.

Hello, I am thinking to buy second hand xonar d2. Should i make this movement 'cause depending on latest comments on this page, drivers are seems kindy problematic. I am using latest windows 10 version and updates. Let me ask one more question? If i had xonar d2, which version should i have to use?

      v1.71.
Some problems are from the drivers and some problems are from Windows 10 and are happening other cards as well.
You should know that the Xonar cards are no longer supported by ASUS and audio chip maker C-media. If M$ decides to make some drastic changes to Windows 10 audio, the Xonar cards may end up not working anymore and there won't be any fix.
I would advise getting the a D2X or DX instead, because if you upgrade your PC you may not have the PCI slot required by the D2 card.

I'm grateful that the UNI drivers exist and are still maintained. I'm in a serious bind. I've been using a Xonar DGX card for 2 years. It has been detected by Win 10 automatically. Within the last 7 days, I got messages that the DGX was not correctly detected. Running the "Resolve Audio Problems" applet resolved my issues. **I only use the DGX to run 1 optical output to an external DAC and 1 bog-standard mini-jack input microphone. -----On Saturday, being a 'tidy' pc conservator, I tried to reinstall the Xonar driver with an Asus update: every card option failed. ----I uninstalled the ASUS driver and installed the UNI most recent Beta: no change (but blue screens). I uninstalled the beta and installed the Stable 1822-1.75ar3: the Xonar card *showed* all was well, and the DAC even showed a signal lock. But I could get no output sound from either of the detected output sources. -----[I then uninstalled and removed the Xonar card and attempted to installl the original and four variants of the Realtek drivers for the mobo integrated audio. Have restarted the machine 50 times in the last three days. Confusion and despair have resulted.]

--I want to try to reinstall the Xonar DGX card a last time. My experience has been that if it is installed first in Win7/8 and the OS updated to Win10---or if it is installed immediately with a fresh Win10 install---it will function with the ASUS drivers. I appeal for suggestions from you and the community. I have read the Trouble-shooting guides and these responses in the thread. I have run the Xonar driver uninstaller and Driver Fusion to remove any vestiges. Are there any specific recommendations anyone would make for installing the Xonar DGX with Win10x64 (Creator's Edition) installed (I can't roll back the update)? I only need optical out and a single crummy mic in to work. Thank you.

If I understood correctly, you've tried the S/PDIF output of your Realtek card and that didn't work either. If that's the case then your problem most likely is from the connection or DAC and not the soundcard.

If ASUS and CMedia does not support xonar cards anymore, why dont they give the driver sourcecode out to help ppl. who want to develop new driver. Could you develop a new driver from start? Maybe it would be better than the buggy official... The xonar STX is still a very good card but without support its almost crap.

I can't do that. Making a new driver from start would take huge amounts of work and it will lack proprietary protocols like SPDIF Dolby Live encoding and others.

The Xonar DSX still kicks ass ! I have also Soundblaster Z and bought DSX intentional for my media PC I tested it in my Omen first and WOOOW!!!! I was surprised how much better the Xonar sounds then SBZ on all levels and fields so I decided to keep it in my gaming rig and bought another one also DSX for my media PC . I will keep SBZ as backup In case Xonar wont be working properly due to lack of driver support in some future time. I also opened a complained ticket by Asus regarding future driver updates .
I love DTS and everything DTS related and XONAR DSX si the KING in this field .
Thank you for keeping the Xonar alive !
P.S: original ASUS drivers from (2015) also working without any problems on the same system , but I prefer this package .

Hi. By using the audio card optical output you are bypassing the card's DAC and op-amps and use those in the speakers instead. Depending on the quality of the DAC and op-amps in those speakers, the sound might be better or worse than from your sound card. If you want to use the audio card for the sound processing you will need to use the analog connections.

Hi ! I was wondering if there was any update on Asus website for Asus Xonar DX soundcard and it appears that there is nothing up to date. Trying to know the best configuration for my soundcard when used with a brand new Sennheiser Game One, I went from forums to forums and finally came here because other people mentionned the Uni Drivers !

What would be the best choice from your drivers library for Windows 10 + Sennheiser Game One + Asus Xonar DX ?

At the moment, I'm running Asus drivers from 2015 but I find the Dolby and the Virtual Surround a bit clunky (it does like metallic noises...).

    Thank you !

Hi. It depends on your needs and issues. Maybe you should start with 1.80a since these use the same audio drivers as ASUS latest but with additional fixes. From there go try the others see if there is one that performs better for your needs.
I suggest you check the FAQ Q&A 9 for suggestions on how to properly configure the audio settings.

Hi. Thank you for your reply. I think the Virtual Surround for headset is really not for me. I don't like the way it sound and it is really not the same as a real 7.1 speaker system. My Sennheiser Game One is brand new. Maybe I need a burn in track in order to optimize it ?

I still didn't try the UNI drivers. I'm afraid of a BSOD or something that could make my PC crash.

        What do you think ?

I don't know if your Sennheiser headphones need a burn in period.
UNi Xonar drivers won't crash your system any more than original drivers.

Hi. Is the card detected in Device Manager -> Sound, video (…)? Does it say that "Device is working properly" under "Device status" in ASUS Xonar STX Proprieties?
Are you using analog(jacks) or S/PDIF output? Are you headphones connected to the front panel or to the rear of the card?
If you right click Windows Volume and select Playback Devices, is the "Speakers Asus Xonar(..)" set as default device?

Hi! Working properly. Using Analog and its connected to the rear of the card and Asus Xonar set as default. Maybe the card is broken but thats also abit weird that it would break exactly the same time as i install win10.

Which Windows 10 version do you have installed?
To see if your card is the problem, you should install windows 7 on a another partition or check your card in another PC preferably with windows 7 or 8.1 and see if it works.

    Hello,

I build myself a new PC. And of course i took my STXII with me. Everything seemed alright. I installed the newest 1.81a R2 driver and had no problems. Until i played CS GO. I got microstuttering all the time. I downgraded graphicsdriver, reinstalled CS GO complete without old cfg files. But no solution. Then i started to use other UniXonar drivers. Now i am at 1.75b R3. And it seems that the problem is gone. I played for a few minutes on Valve Deathmatch server to test it. And so far it seems ok again. I report back here if i get problems again or if it stays "fixed".

    System Info:
    Windows 10 x64 1709 Build 16299.125
    Intel i9 7900X
    64GB DDR4 RAM
Asus X299 Prime Deluxe (Onboard sound deactivated)
    nvidia GTX Titan Xp

    hi i have a question, i have a STX I with drivers 1825 v1.81
    the asio version is 2.0.0.12
now maybe i will buy a STX II, i see that latest drivers are the same so
with the STX II did will be installed the .14 version or still .12 with those driver?
and i case did i can switch 2.0.0.14 changing the two dll cmasiop(x) (not possible with the STX 1) as i have
    thanks

    • CarvedInside05 Mar 2018 @ 08:24

ASIO 2.0.0.14 is tied to STXII 1.80b drivers and doesn't work with standard drivers. So regardless of audio card, when installing 1.81a drivers you will get ASIO 2.0.0.12 and it cannot be replaced. You can install 1.80b drivers for your STX if you want to check 2.0.0.14 ASIO.

would ask if for the stx ii better the 1.81 unified drivers or their own older 1.80b?
the 1.81 works great with stx i on win10 fcu, and with the "disable speaker compensation" tweak too

    Hi!

What's the status of these drivers on recent Windows 10 versions? When I tried it with my Xonar D1 1.5 year or so ago I had constant crackling which was impossible to resolve.
Does anyone use a Xonar card on "Redstone 4"? (Which is near release I believe)

"1825 audio drivers have an issue when the audio card is uninstalled, disabled or the drivers are overwritten, resulting in a system crash. In order to avoid the uninstall system crash I’ve come up with a workaround that’s presented below"

This is not encouraging... I quite often have to disable/enable the card when the sound gets screwed up (The left channel becomes silent). I suppose this didn't change since the release note was made?

By the way, how should I interptret the win 10 compatibility section.
Are the issues mentioned for the earlier versions still present in later ones since they're not noted to be fixed?
For example are these still happening: "unbalanced audio mix with Dolby Headphone", "random BSODs while watching youtube or playing movies" ?

      PS:
Some of the links are broken (and others will be broken) because they neglect a page number. For example the ones in the "Drivers above 1821 v1.71 may cause BSOD when waking system from sleep" section

Thank you for the heads up on the broken links.

About the Win 10 compatibility section, I don't have information on those that aren't marked as fixed. They could be fixed after some update, could be fixed in any of the newer Windows 10 versions or could still happening in that Windows version and any of the follow-up versions. Also, some issues are only happening for some people.

I was the one reporting the unbalanced audio with Dolby Headphone and, as I've already mentioned in one of the comments before, I honestly can't tell if it's still happening and I just don't notice it as much anymore, or if it went away at some point. Anyway, I'm no longer using Dolby Headphone directly from the card control panel, I tend to use the HeSuVi app ( https://sourceforge.net/projects/hesuvi/ ) and alternate between several presets as needed there.

The constant crackling issue that you had is not a something that happens to vast majority. Don't know if you would still have that with upcoming Windows 10 version.
The BSOD when the card is restarted with 1825 drivers is still happening. It is something that could only be fixed in a future audio driver. You don't have install 1825 drivers, you could install any of the older drivers. Probably won't be missing anything.
